Root [1st Gen] OTA rootkeeper not working

I used Kindle fire Utility to root my fire and installed google maps and used that to install OTARootKeeper.

i got this so that i could watch videos on the amazon video store.
unfortunately the only option that i see when i open the app is "backup root"

there is no temp-unroot button.

has anyone had a similar issue?
i got this kindle really recently and it came with 6.3.1 installed already.

i will try completely returning to stock and try again from scratch.

I got it working. I believe what helped was loading up the superuser app and telling it to auto allow everything.

I hope this helps someone else in the future.
