Root 1st time posting: Need Help Flashing New Firmware

lccl4

Lurker
I got the ICS ota update, rooted it, then followed the Unlock Bootloader & Root. I followed the thread "How to return to pure V4 or V6 Verizon stock with only CWM recovery" and returned it to V6 and have the flashing triangle. From there I followed the post that said I needed to flash the firmware with a cab file. When I did the process stopped on download and gave me this message: "Update is not possible any longer due to a fatal error while the LG Mobile Phone Software Update." in the help box is said "select the contact button to contact LG Mobile Phone Software Update on line." when I clicked it, it took me to the LG website with no reference to my problem. The phone now reads "Android Version 2.3.6 and the SW Version is VS920V7"
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP get back to stock ICS or even rooted with out the bootloader unlocked. I need my blue tooth working, and would like to get my wifi hotspot working. Thanks
By the way, I'm running Win 7 64bit. on a Fujitsu T5010, could that be the problem?

V6 and below does not work with the V7 radio files. Not sure why they did that, but they did. No work around is known at this point , but it's probably something simple stupid to fix.

As for your issue, you're either typing in a file path wrong or missing an internet connection on your computer. I'll put money on the fact that your file path or name is incorrect. Try again and if it still fails, come back and type exactly what you are typing in the 4 prompts and I can try and trouble shoot it.

Keep in mind, V7 (ICS) does not allow wifi tether programs like foxfi or wifitether to work. Only the VZW hotspot app works at this point.

In the mean time, if you want a quick/easy fix, just go and flash an ICS rom. You have the radio files already, and you'll only be missing out on bluetooth until you get the cab method working or we get the kernel source code from LG.

Thanks for your reply Neph81. I'm not sure if your referring to flashing a cad file or using the CWM to flash with. I'll try anything to make the phone work right at this time. I'll also try the cad file again. This will be the fourth or fifth time but I'll try again. I was concerned about putting the right path in, and I even took a screen shot for someone to look over to see if I did something wrong, but as you know, being my first time posting it wouldn't let me upload it. If there is an ICS nandroid file and zip could somebody direct me to it since that seems to work. If that's the rom you're referring to Neph81, then that would be a satisfying solution for me. Please excuse my ignorance, I'm kinda new at this but want to learn how to get the most out of my phone. I kept the unlimited data plan because I want to wireless tether to my laptop and other devices. My thanks to you Neph81 and to everyone else on this site for the education and help. It's greatly appreciated.

It's a .cab file, not a .cad file. The only way to gain back hotspot (rooted) and bluetooth is to downgrade back to V6 or V4. If you're typing in .cad, it is probably why your update is failing.

As for ICS roms, there are a few floating around in the forum here. They all are missing bluetooth functionality until we get the ICS kernel source.

You were right Neph. I was typing the path wrong. Thanks for the encouragement to try it again. After putting in the phone model, the instructions read "Input the full path to your cab file including .CAB at the end (i.e. C:\KP500\VS920Z3_02.S3_02.P58012.R5.cab)". I was putting the "KP500\" in the path like the example then my cab file. It may just be me, but maybe that example could be modified for more clarity for others-who like me-have to follow instructions exactly until we are more experienced. I am now back to v6 and all is well with my phone. I may go back to ICS and just wait until you all figure out how to get everything working. Thanks again.

ok, you guys are awesome, and i cant thank u enough for all your patiance because im sure it must get a least a little fresturating being asked the same questions over and over and over, however.. i just want isc, and i cant seem to figure out how to get it. the ota update triangles me at about 40% and i have to flash the cwm bootfix to load my rom (stock v6) after that. the "Flashing lg signed firmware" instructions lead me to the same error screen iccl had, fatal error blah blah contact joe shmoe.. so i just want to clarify, because your instructions are pretty simple. i extracted the kp500 files to my desktop, and moved the downloaded cab file there also.. so it looks like "C:\users\thechad\desktop\vs920zv7_15.s7_15.p58014.r5.cab" then next line is "vs920zv7_15.s7_15.p58014.r5" then enter, then restart. it gives me the error after searching for the phone number in the script window thats viewable during the proccess. any pointers as to why i cant get this to work? im on stock v6 and stock recovery, and factory reset as well. i have the modem turned off threw device manager and i have the phone on dnld mode when i run the kp500 utility.. it actually got further when i forgot to put the phone in dnld mode before runing the utility one the the million times iv tried, i wonder why.. but any help would really be appreciated, thanks in advance

The first time thru is always the hardest and I don't have an explanation for why. Your path seems to be valid. Is there any way you can give a screen shot of the section before it errors out? That or possible highlight and copy the text? If nothing else, I would run the tool one or two more times and see if it kicks thru.

I would shorten the file name. I had a few cases where cuting the file name work out. It makes it shorter to type too. I'd also try writing the file name in the proper case as well. Hope this helps

thanks a lot for the quick responses, after shortening the file path and capitalizing the source, it worked! is my radio updated with this flash? now to root..

Yes, the cab updates your radio files. Rooting is easy. If you don't plan on unlocking your bootloader then make sure to check out the root warning post that's stickied in the forum. Good luck.
