Hi there,

Since this is my first android phone, i'll be posting questions (& answers that were found) and hopefully ppl can help

Just got my HTC one x yesterday and here are my queries so far:

-outlook Notes sync?
is there any app that will allow you to sync outlook notes FREE?

-wireless static ip setup?
this one is tricky probably if ones never used android before.
on the connection/password screen of the wireless, you can actually scroll down to show tick box for 'advanced settings' and once ticked you can scroll down for more option such as static ip address.

-emoji to show for sms??
to make emoji to show on the generic sms programme that came with the phone apparently you need to Root (like 'jailbreak' for iphone) your device and tweak it.
otherwise the best Free solution i found so far is to simply download TXT/SMS APP that supports it (with plug-in add ons), and the popular ones seems to be either 'Handcent SMS' or 'GO SMS PRO'.

-music player

After downloading and testing out more than 10 music apps that ppl recommended...
conclusion is that they all more or less similar.
the only differences besides the cosmetic pleasure for some were players that has strong equalizer function to enhance your listening pleasure, good for ppl using generic headpieces.
Initially i was looking for a (free) music player that will sync and edit ratings so i can sort my music on the go. Surprisingly i was only able to come across ONE.. DoubleTwist.
only downside is that you need to sync your music library separate to your generic ones, and require installation on pc.

the thing is, after all this, i resort back to the generic music player...
for sorting on the go i simply chuck the song to a 'playlist' that i made on the go, eg '5star', 4star' etc.

For me the stock player actually plays songs nicely and the interface also pleasure to use already.

-ebook/comic reader
i still have not been able to find a good free reader that reads most comic formats as well as ebook formats plus pdf. dont mind the ads and stuff.
even simple format all in one can not find.. ><
(eg. txt/zip/jpg/pdf)

any suggestions?

Hope this will help new users like me! :)

thanks earlymon.

yea it looks like android system does not favor outlook notes somehow for free stuff.. ><

i tried evernotes last year (on iphone) and it didnt offer much options.. but i just installed the latest version on my One X and it seems heaps of improvments now!
so thanks for mentioning this again, and i'll probably just use this over my outlook notes or Onenote.

cheers.

Personally speaking for wireless I like to use DHCP. While static addresses can be easy, any dhcp server worth its salt should be able to hand out static IP addys based on mac-addresses. Most computers here in my lan get their IP that way (sure there is of course the question of why using dhcp if all machines (3 desktops, around 3 laptops, 3 smartphones) have an static but .. let's just say I am weird that way and the rest of those using my lan can get a random address .. :)

Just wondering if someone could tell me if the speakerphone on the One X is any good or if it is the typical weak offering from HTC?

It's not amazing, but it's certainly a step up from their other offerings.

Thanks for that.

Also, have the weather animations completely gone when you unlock the screen? I'm glad that they have reduced the amount of animation, but in my opinion it would be a shame if they got rid of the weather animations as its one of the things that gives a HTC phone it's identity.

Just a little thing that I have noticed in the weather animations, I've noticed the windscreen wiper on others phones, but not mine. The raindrops on the screen just seem to disappear?

Personally I find the animations are one of the things that you miss when they are not therte but they really start to grate a bit when you have had them on for a while. Kept turning them on and off on my desire HD before finally turning the them off altogether.

Its definately a good thing they are still there though, after all android is about choice and choice is good.
