Help 1x or 3G

Been having 3g issues. I tried some of the fixes suggested in other posts. My time w/o signal was running at least 50%. Now at the moment it is 0%. But instead of showing 3G at the top it now shows 1X. What does this mean?

1x stands for 1xrtt and is much slower than 3g (EVDO). Without opening a whole ball of wax, when talking data, 1x it first generation (1.5?) whereas EVDO is third generation. Beyond rebooting, I can't help much with the 3g data problem you are probably still having. Keep in mind that 1x has greater range and building penetration than EVDO, so dropping to 1x may be indicative of being too far from a tower too.

What fix did you use?

It sounds like you dialed *#*#4636#*#* and changed it to CDMA. That forces it to 1g.

Than you should click CDMA auto (prl) again and put it back where it was.

That fix is a toggle, amd it does work, but you have to repeat it each time you reboot your phone.

Check and make sure it is set to CDMA auto.

You are right, that's what I did. So now I have gone in and put it back on CDMA auto, and I'm back on 3G. But my Time without Signal is back to 50% and I don't have any arrows going up or down next to the 3G.

What should I do now? I have tried the airplane mode, and that doesn't work.

Try rebooting the phone and do it again (dial *#*#4636#*#*, click CDMA, click CDMA auto) and see what it does then.

Mine says 8% time without signal today, and it always says zero. Might be something going on with the signal today.

Some clarifications:

According to the CDMA Development Group -

cdmaOne (TIA/EIA/IS-95) is first generation CDMA technology, but slots into the 2G category of wireless technologies overall.

CDMA2000 1X (TIA/EIA/IS-2000) (aka 1xRTT) is second generation CDMA technology, but slots into the IMT-2000 3G category of wireless technologies overall. Due to the "slow" peak data rate of 153 kbps, CDMA2000 1X is sometimes referred to as a "2.5 G" or "3G transitional" technology.

CDMA2000 EV-DO Revision A (TIA/EIA/IS-856-A) is the fastest 3G data speed currently available on Sprint's network, offering a peak data download rate of 3.1 Mbps. (The "DO" stands for data only, so if you are making a voice phone call, it doesn't matter if you have 1x or 3G showing.)
