2.1 and Native Messages app

Here's a question I haven't seen asked yet. If my phone was affected by the native SMS app keeping my phone awake 100% of the time, would updating to the 2.1 leak fix this problem? Or would the problem remain and I would have to keep Handcent?

I had the awake time problem in 1.5 but used the native successfully in the leak. YMMV. I like handcent though so I'm using that again
