2.1 update for USA

From what I understand the only "US version" is AT&T right? All the debranded phones use another firmware (wether it's X10i Global Generic or a version of X10a - Argentina, Brazil or Generic Latin America).

That means AT&T is not yet released, the only option now is to flash the 2.1 X10a (Brazil) and I'm not sure if a ROM is available, I did it through X10i Nordic and then rebranded to X10a Brazil (see XDA-Devs for instructions).

so when you update with other countries firmwares, and rebrand etc. does that mean it will still run english language? or does it cause any other kind of issues not being from the country you are in?

hello, i have an unbranded x10 in seattle, washington. PCcompanion did not work, but i was unable to update using SEUS. when i go to --> settings --> about phone --> software update, it tells me 2.1 is available. so i updated it using SEUS just a few days ago

Hello Joe, so I see you installed 2.1. I have a couple of Questions:
1. Confirming, you did "Debrand" your phone, correct?
2. Who is your carrier (T-Mobile)?
3. Do you have the "a" version or the "i" version?
4. What are you running in order to have 2.1 on your phone?

Thanks!

Yeah, not only has AT&T not released anything, but they are not even confirming they will upgrade to 2.1. So it is a really sad sack over here with AT&T..

You don't want to debrand, Gunny? I am on AT&T USA running generic R2BA026 - granted no upgrade yet for me either, but I have never regretted debranding. I used Omnius server to debrand, and rooted to get rid of the Sony uneccessary stock apps. Phone runs real well.

AT&T historically is slow to release software upgrades to their phones if all. I realized, too, that their personnel are not even very familiar with the SE phone. I went to the store to physically buy my phone at upgrade time, and the rep was asking her co-workers if they could go to the stockroom and get the "Sony X10 Exterior" phone.

Sorry, veered a little off topic, but wanted to just say that generic firmware phones will undoubtedly get the upgrade before AT&T branded.

LOL, yeah same kinda thing happened to me. They said what kind of phone? I said SE..Xperia. They had to look it up, then said maybe the other store would get it so go there. Then they get it, and they have no accessories or anything, no color options. Black or nothing. SO I got black and had to get a screen protector online. (yes, I know, found out later SE put one ont he phone already).

Well, it seems I may head down the road of de-branding and updating etc pretty soon here.Hmm.

You won't regret debranding. There are plenty of tutorials now that will show you how to debrand for free. Most of them weren't posted yet when I got my phone. I used a paid service mainly because I didn't want to wait for someone to provide an easy tutorial for doing it. For me, rooting was just the icing on the cake.. got tired of looking at all those moxier apps, etc cluttering up my app drawers.

By the way, AT&T X10 owners, did you notice that although Sony ships the X10 with an 8 gb memory card... yours only came with a 2 gb card? Hmm...

The AT&T forums are full of ppl frustrated about no 2.1 yet.

yeah no chit, I did get a 2gb sd card. WTF. Good thing my buddy has bought quite a few top-end Droid phones that come with 16gb cards and he gave me one.

so will de=branding make my phone an X10i? how do you know what apps to get rid of? I'm already rooted.

Depends on what firmware you debrand to. There's a tutorial on debranding that will allow you to stay x10a Debranding ? - Page 5 - xda-developers
Plenty of people have reported success with that.

As far as what apps to ditch, I got rid of moxier quadrapop and some tutorials, etc. You won't see any of those till you debrand, they are stock SE apps. AT&T strips em from their version of the X10. You will lose all AT&T carrier specific apps like MediaNet & Mobitv. Mobitv is a subscription thing anyway.

Hope that helps, a litle. :p

Hello everyone, just came back from being overseas for 3 weeks. I have been trying to catch up on the upgrade. So far what I got was that there is no official at&t upgrade and the only for us under privileged ones to upgrade was to de brand.

Am I correct?

Thanks much. :)

Yeah, that seems to be the gist of it.

Yeah, 2GB SD Card, Thanking AT&T, NOT... LOL! Well I think I will hold off any Rooting or Debranding until I see some people in the good ole' USA with the X10"A" doing so successfully! If at that time AT&T is still saying, what, huh, have no idea, I will consider it, but not until than.... I need to have some piece of mind with this phone or I'd go bonkers...LOL!

Same here.

Hi rosered, thanks. Good to be back :)

I'm in the USA... phone sales # 1237-4604 , Carrier's AT&T but I am debranded, as I mentiond earlier. So far so good.. seems faster and touch screen's more responsive... More feedback later as I play with this thing. :)

Yes, I would debrand if it didnt change the whole phone to some other country's firmware and change it to 10xi. If I can debrand to generic and keep my phone a 10xa I may consider it. So confusing with all the different threads on these types of processes.
