2.2 Discoveries

Anyone else noticea more solid bluetooth connection to 3rd party audio devices? My blueant bluetooth headset seems to be dropping out less and the sound quality seems improved.

I found a shortcut to access the numbers and punctuation on stock android keyboard. Don't know if its an android 2.2. Instead of pressing the (?123) button, press anywhere on the screen and just slide your finger up but keep it press towards the txt input field and 2 rows will appear; one for punctuation and one for numbers. And there it goes, no need to press the (?123) button! Hope it works for all android phones with stock android keyboard.

Yes, that's one of Froyo's features :)

I've never noticed this before so it may be new or may not but if I receive a new gmail notification on the N1 and I look at it on my PC, the phone automatically cancels the new mail flashing trackball and removes the icon on the info bar.

oh rite, cheers. For some reason Gmail never worked right on my N1 since I updated to 2.1 so thats prob why I never noticed it before (used to freeze and put up the error box constantly).

I noticed that video playback has been improved and now it's close to perfect. district 9 and some other movies used to have distortion in dark scenes in 2.1. I just thought it was due to poor compression of the video file. But when I watch them in 2.2 via the stock movie player the distortion is gone and the blacks and contrast are jawdroppingingly superb. I wish I had a 50 inch version of the n1's screen for my living room.

What about stock support of multiple languages for text input? I use it a lot and it's very easy to switch between languages, just swipe along the space button(but first you need enable language of your choice in keyboard settings)

Sorry not seen anyone answer this for you yet but apologies if im double posting. If you hold down your home button with your screen unlocked it displays the 8 most recent apps. very handy feature.

Thanks, I worked it out. At first I thought Froyo came with 8 updated apps that I wasn't seeing...

Annoyance:

There doesn't seem to be a setting that allows you to have the ability to set the phone to silent(no vibration), vibration, and then the different levels of volume with the rocker as before. Now in order to get a true silent mode I have to turn off vibration.

This is annoying because I normally keep my phone on vibrate. But when I go to bed I turn it off because it wakes my girlfriend up if it goes off. Anyone know which setting will make it go back to normal?

In order to make it go to silent versus vibrate...

Go to Setting->Sound->Vibrate, and change from Always to "Only when not in Silent mode". That will change it back to how it was prior to the 2.2 update.

Now if only they would do this for the non-Gmail e-mail app.

its always been that way since 2.1 anyways

best thing I found is the portable wifi hotspot.... I have used this several times now and have hooked up a pc and my mac while we were in hotels......

This is the greatest part of FroYo for me (well its a tie with Flash)... I was impressed at how fast pages load when connected to my portable hotspot.
