2.2 is out

If you're having lots of "buggy" issues (Screen lockups, apps not functioning properly) the factory reset may cure those issues. The tradeoff, unfortunately, is that you will lose all your data and apps. You can back everything up and restore it after the reset, but that does make it a little more involved.

I have been running the "leaked" version of this update for about 2 months now, and I have not noticed any improvement in battery life, either. I was wondering if the "official" release would contain any improvements, but it appears the answer is "no".

The factory reset did clear up a lot of the buggy stuff I was dealing with. It was frustrating to restore everything, but the results have been worth the hassle.

i did the factory reset and still had the same issue w/ my touchscreen locking up, i spoke to us cellular last night and they decided to send me a new phone.

hmm, kind of disappointed with speed improvements. using quadrant it benchmarked exactly the same as with 2.1 instead of the huge difference that normally happens. i rerooted mine and did the lagfix again and it benchmarks at 1600 to 1800 where it did a 2100 with 2.1. nice to be able to use 2.2 apps again though

I installed the update but

@woodard2589 how did you reroot your phone?

I am unable to since the update, seems as though many are having the same issues too.

Thank you in advance

i used superoneclick to do it, could never get z4root to work before and superoneclick worked first try and then just restarted the phone. i only use basic root with busybox too if that matters.

so in long text fields you have to scroll around just to see what you are typing?

I knew I shoulda stayed with 2.1 right now

I can't believe that US Cellular would release this buggy mess. Why didn't they wait until they had everything working properly?

I guess we just have to wait until the 2.3 release sometime in 2014.

thanks a million, the issue i had was that I didn't restart the phone, once i did that it rooted perfectly

thanks again

When I first rooted my phone it was with z4root I had to pull battery and power cycle then I was able to.

But since the 2.2 froyo update I couldn'tpget it but its amazing how it was a simple reboot phone to get singleoneclick to work. Granted it's not a root/unroot on fly but I just happy to get all my contacts and saved back upped items from titianium backup

Thanks again for you saved me a lot of work.

You are the AWESOME person of the day in my book

Well, i fixed the darn problem(s) with mine. I just flashed 2.1 back on it and couldnt be happier. The primary reason I got this phone was to use it for my forums and if i cant see what im typing then screw it. ill maybe upgrade when they fix the problem

A couple of solutions for you to try. I've been running 2.2 for a couple of months and have not ever had your issue. It might be because I run these apps:
--Swiftkey keyboard (major improvement over stock android keyboard)
--Dolphin HD browser
--Tapatalk Pro for Forums

You might want to check those out.

Android, unlike some of the other smartphone OS's, will allow you to customize every part of the phone. If one function isn't working, chances are there is an app that will do it. And for many of the stock functions, there is an app that does it better. (K9 mail, Handcent SMS, Swiftkey are examples)

no that feature is still there.

You are talking about the tethering feature, right? I use the tethering feature and it's free. It pops up saying I will be charged, but myself and a friend each confirmed with USCC that they can't see how we are using our data, so as long as we don't go over the 5gb cap that we are safe. I want to make sure I can still do that for free before I do the update.

So far, I have not been charged differently. I've been through at least 1 billing cycle with 2.2

Ok, I fixed my problem. I reflashed to 2.1 and love it again. Only real improvement I seen in 2.2 was the keyboard had no more lag. but mine is doing fine now. I factory reset the phone a few times and it still had that problem(s). So i finally got pissed off enough and changed back.

I tried three different browsers and none of them were as good or fast as the stock Mesmerize browser. I have tapatalk, but I can still post faster and edit faster on the stock browser.

I may try the swiftkey though

My experience is just the opposite of yours. The stock browser is okay, but its not great. Skyfire, Opera, and Dolphin are all far superior to the stock. The only one I find not as good, (and I don't expect it to stay that way for long) is Firefox.

Dolphin HD is so customizable and useful (especially with full screen turned on) that I find myself using it at home even when my laptop is available. Much faster than stock, too.

Yeah, I like Dolphin a lot as well. I have it on my Mez and my G-tablet. It's great on the tablet because you can customize how it shows up for different sites. It seems way more streamlined than the stock browser.

Just did the upgrade. Seems faster on my phone. How do you move all of my apps to the sd card?

Settings-->Applications-->Manage Applications-->

From there, click on the app you want to move. Under the "Storage" tab, you'll see two buttons, "Clear Data" and "Move to SD Card". If the app does not allow it to work from the SD card, the "Move" option will be greyed out. If its available, click the button and you're all set.

How come my battery life has plumited since the upgrade?

I think that there is more stuff going on in the background with the new firmware. I used to be able to free up about 100-120mb of RAM with Advanced Task Killer, but now I'm only able to get 60 or so. It's kind of a bummer. The phone does seem to run faster overall, but I hate being tied to a charger all the time. I'm about to look into rooting mine to try to clear up some of the background stuff.

Is that the only answer? To root?
