2.2 Mobile Data ON/OFF?

Dunkeroo

Since 2.2 I see we now have the option of turning 3g mobile data on and off.

What are the pros/cons to having it on or off?

I think Verizon used this to replace the "airplane mode." I haven't messed around with it much, I just leave it on.

From what i've learned over the past 24 hours about it.

It may have replaced the airplane mode spot but the two options do not function the same way as airplane mode shut down the phones cellular activity (could not make or receive calls) per the requirement of being on an airplane all the while still being able to use the phones applications.

With mobile data off you can still make and receive calls/text messages. You just can't access things like the internet or use apps that require a data connection. I also noticed that while mobile data is off not only do less tasks/apps restart but my battery last a hell of a lot longer.

If it is true, that is bad news. When I am on the airplane, I always set it to airplane mode, not because I need to comply with the regulation, but also to conserve my battery. Your phone will constantly be seeking wireless network and it can drain battery very fast.
