Root 2.2x to 2.3x?

Ultimadrago

Hi,

I've read in agentc13's guide to custom triumph firmware that the Ticker's CM7
is for the Android 2.3x.

I've been trying to system update on my phone but it only states: "Install package not found"

I've already rooted and have CWM on it. Are these the reasons?

My Motorola came as 2.2x for stock.

You have to download a custom rom, put it on the root of your sdcard (when you first open it), then power off, hold both volume keys and power button till, it vibrates, then scroll to wipe/factory reset and select it using menu, then scroll down to flash a zip from sdcard (or something like that), choose it, then choose choose zip scroll to the custom rom you downloaded and out on your sdcard then select and reboot... Also for cm7 you have to download gapps as well and flash it right after you flash the rom.

So I don't have to manually update from 2.2x to 2.3x before putting on the custom firmware?

Also, what is a Gapps and how do you flash it?

NO because VM hasn't updated the MT to 2.3 anyways here's Whyzor's cm7-tg-reloaded which is a better version of cm7 it has the download for the rom and gapps in the OP. Alls gapps is, is Google apps, gmail, market, etc. And just flash it the same way you flash the rom before you reboot though. If you have any more questions there's lots of people to help :D

the custom firmware replaces... uh.. everything. no need to update. the only reason we HAVE a custom firmware is becuase a "official" 2.3 does NOT exist.

you only have to back up the 2.2 firmware as a nandroid from inside the Recovery.

once you flash the rom, the recovery will show you the option to reboot, but scroll down, choose zip file and flash the gapps in the SAME way you flash the rom. THEN reboot. everything will be fine.

your texts, call history, browsing history, accounts, and everything thats not stored on the SD card will be completely wiped and gone. you will have to sign into google and start fresh.

GO SMS can back up your text messages if you install it in the stock rom, backup texts to SD card, then restore them inside cm7

I think I got the ROM working...but when I click on the Market place, it states that there's no connection even though I flashed the "Gapps" as well before reboot.

Edit: Nevermind. Market booted! It just took a while for the 3G to kick in. Thanks to both of you!
