Root 2.3 just arrived via kies - Optus Australia

Newbie
just got it today. it's the JVH version. pretty nice versus the older 2.3 - seems smoother, faster and a bit of lag seems to be fixed up.

Australia!!! Seriously!!! Hopefully I can sleep tonight, I'll go on there tomorrow and update it. No more lag!!! WOOT!!!

just do it via samfirmware/odin. i was about to do that myself when the kies monster did it for me..... it runs really good now. very smooth/fast etc....

Why all the different release dates. Wish theyd just get them all out on the same day!

ah the big disadvantage of Android, every flippin operator has a custom version that has to be tested by that operator before release once the base code is released by Google. So no one ring to rule them all in the Android universe unlike that "other" OS that is the same for all phones worldwide.

In my country i.e. India the phones are not tied to operators and thus have stock Android. Yet updates are terribly slow.

Gingerbread might arrive at the end of this month whereas 2.2.1 never arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hell!

So can anyone please tell me if this update is out yet, as my Kies is not showing it yet.

Does that mean I need to install 2.2 first and then it will offer me 2.3?

N-man.

What state are you from, if you don't mind me asking. It's definitely gingerbread?

Brisbane. Must have been one of the quirks in Kies that let me have it. I was running gingerbread already and then one day it "upgraded" via kies to a newer version. not sure how i did it. sorry:-)

Wow... Could you tell me what version of Kies you're running? I might need a Kies upgrade.

Edit: I'm running Kies version 2.0.0.11044_11. I tried installing the latest version from the Samsung Australia website, but it turns out that it was the exact same version I have. No updates yet.

I am on Froyo, but in Kies it says "This is the latest firmware."
current firmware version : PDA:JP5/ PHONE: JP3 / CSC:JP4 (XSA)
latest firmware version: PDA:JP5/ PHONE: JP3 / CSC:JP4 (XSA)

Why is my Kies not detecting 2.3?

i think i was just logged on at the right time - they must have pulled it as i can't get my wife's to upgrade to gingerbread now either.

its worth going to samfirmware and doing it yourselves. gingerbread is way better.

Vodafone customers have received the gingerbread update through their phones. My wife has just downloaded it on her htc Desire hd.

Im wondering if I should download froyo again, but the last time it messed up my phone and i had to take it to a Samsung repair site where they switched it back to 2.1 Eclaire...

I'm thinking the problems I had on 2.2 were maybe to do with other software and not the 2.2 firmware itself?
