Help 2 nexus 4 problems that wont go away and its driving me nuts

OK so this just started a few days ago.

1St issue. Whenever the keyboard is brought up wether it be for text messages, Facebook forums etc. The keyboard goes nuts. It will flicker, then drop down then pop back up every 3*4 seconds or so and automatically delete whatever I just wrote. Making it impossible to text anything.

Issue number 2. Sometimes (50%) I will take a photo and it will freeze the phone. And when I am in the gallery trying to view a video I took on the phone it will also freeze and need a reboot. That's if I can even watch the vid. Most of the time it will play about 3 seconds of the video then stop/pause almost like its buffering. Then I will hit play again, it will go another 3 seconds or so then either freeze up or pause again.

It has not been dropped nor damaged. Its about 3 months old.

Oh. Also I had it in my car Bluetooth enabled and tried to answer a call. I swiped the screen to answer and it froze up. But was still ringing thru my car speakers.

I dunno whats going on but it is extremely frustrating.

I have tried nothing other than a simple reboot as I am not sure exactly how to save my contacts, apps , music downloads etc and don't wanna try a factory reset until I get everything saved.

Try a simulated battery pull. Hold the power button (ignore the menu that pops up with power off, etc) until the N4 reboots. This generally has the same effect as a battery pull-- basically a soft reset.

That ^^

Also, this will sound dumb, but you could also try cleaning the screen as I've had SOME similar issues to those you describe when the screen has had dirt on some critical parts of the screen.

Thanks guys. I did the soft reset and it seems to be ok .. Just a few more questions. I have the es task manager and will usually once a day clear the cache and kill All tasks on the task manager. Does this clear ALL cache, such as the camera, gallery music etc or is it just the browser? And why do I sometimes get the "package file invalid" for some downloads and updates?

Thanks again!

The problems you have been experiencing could easily be explained by your (unnecessary) use of a task killer. The Android OS can be safely left to do its own memory management, it's really quite good at it.

Stop using the task killer for a week or so and see what happens. You'll be surprised at how much better-behaved your phone becomes :-)

Should I just delete es task killer? Sorry guys I'm an android noon and was downloading apps with good reviews and/or an editors choice award so I thought it would be a good addition.

With all the improvements to android using a task killer, has for a while now, done more harm than good. I'd never go near a task killer on a phone such as our Nexus 4's. I may clear the cache of my browser if you search alot, and maybe other big apps; but the most I'd ever clear the cache for any app is maybe twice a year. Hope your phone starts operating better.

On my last phone, running 2.something, a task killer - despite what everyone said - did actually help. A lot. There were times when the phone ground to a halt and using the task killer could get it running again without the need to restart.

With the N4, though I've never had a task killer - or felt the need for one.

Clearing caches may help if you're right up to the limit on space, however I suspect it's more likely to make things a bit slower/more of a pain to use than to help much.

Thanks everyone. I deleted it. Just curious. What is the 'delete data'?I see chrome has 70+mb

Basically I just want to keep everything clean and running smooth but am a chicken and get turned away when the warning pop ups tell me that if I proceed that things might be lost , will not work properly etc.

Like with the ' clear data' it will say something like. " all data will be deleted permanently, This includes all files, settings, databases etc"

Yeah - I would use the Clear Cache option on Chrome instead. Not sure what else is affected by Delete Data but I figure its safer just to clear the cache :D

Delete Data will make the app like it was 1st installed, you will loose all settings, passwords, bookmarks...everything.
