$20 for the Bumper

A bit pricey for a bumper.

How much protection will this really give? Is it worth buying one, price aside? I don't have any experiences with bumpers.

With so much open area exposed, probably not a whole lot. I prefer cases that offer actual protection, such as the seidio innocase. However, it does seem to be thicker and and tougher (from the pics) than the iPhone bumpers.

I think I might order it separately even though it will cost me more shipping wise. I would hate for any problems filling the bumper order to cause a delay in shipping the phone.

If they're wise, they'll ship each order as it becomes available, like many online retailers. Of course, Googles still getting used to this whole retail thing so the route you're taking may be the safest.

I didn't even consider that, but I don't feel like paying the extra shipping if I don't have to. Feel free to brag if you get the phone first though lol.

Bumpers like this aren't really designed to offer a lot of protection. It's more for giving the back more clearance so that if it does fall, it's likely to take the hit using the frame of the phone rather than putting stress on the either glass panel and to keep stratches off the side of the phone.

It's a weird give and take because most people would only get something like this bumper if they wanted to keep the phone spotless for resale later, but you still have to spend $20 on a bumper that won't add much resale value to the phone a year from now.

If you just want to case a phone to keep it safe for resale, the best bet is to just take good care of the phone and don't buy a case.

BTW, can someone point me to a thread that's tracking the official release of the phone? Just checked the page and it looks like they've removed the "available on 11/13" portion" and are getting ready to make it available.

I kind of like the idea of the bumper so that if I set the phone down, the gorilla glass on the back will be suspended above the surface.

With regards to the web page. Some people are reporting seeing what you are while some are still seeing the "available on 11/13" message. I'm expecting Midnight Pacific.

I'm a hip east-coaster who thinks everyone should work with the EST time zone.

... But if midnight comes and goes... I guess Ill set an alarm for 3 freaking am.

Just kidding, everyone. Happy F5ing.

I don't know how it'll protect, but I do like how they made it to look like the sides of the phone with the chrome trim ring and the buttons.

So has anybody successfully ordered the bumper? I've gotten the "Add To Cart" option a few times but it's errored out after that. I called Google Play support and they claim if it says "Coming Soon" that means it's out of stock but I don't buy that for a second since people have been reporting successful N4 orders after several minutes of page refreshing.

I happened to check the page at 11:35 est, saw that it had posted earlier than expected, got the 16g in my cart after about 3-4 tries, and the order processed fine. Hasn't shipped yet. I can't tell if the "estimated shipment date" (which for me says 11/15) is the literal shipment date or delivery date. In the Help Center, it says that Google uses UPS 2-day for everything, but processing could take UP TO 2 days so that date could be based off either.

Anyway, it has technically been sold out in the US (and I assume Canada if it's a combined allocation) since about noon est.

The reason why it's still possible to get one is that many people who got through originally entered multiple orders, unsure if their first orders went through or not. Now, every single time someone cancels an order, the "add to cart" button will appear again for that model. I've kept both models' product pages opened with a 2 second auto-refresh and have seen both of them come available for a few seconds at a time and then go back to sold out once somebody snatches it up. It was obviously happening much more frequently earlier.

At this point, anyone who didn't get one will have to wait for the next allocation to come in, although it's likely there will be at least a few more cancellations tonight. I think someone early had a way to use to trigger a loud alarm as soon as the one of the pages updated with "ADD TO CART". Would be worth keeping open for awhile if you really wanted to still get in on this allocation.

EDIT: Just after I posted this, the 16g came open with "ADD TO CART". Almost immediately after it went off, the 8g came available... twice now. The point being it's still possible to catch one. The 16gb was open for about 3 seconds and the 1st 8g was there for almost 10 seconds then another 8g for about 5 seconds..... and now another 8g for 6 seconds... then a 16g, okay I've gotta quit watching this.
