2g/3g control widget

Hi All,

Might as well pop my forum cherry :)
I would be keen to hear if anyone knew of a good widget or shortcut method to switch 2g/3g on and off.
Basically, looking for a simple widget that works like the power controls but allows me to stop data access over my network.
The main reason is being on a limited plan.

cheers,

Great Dane

When on the home screen tap the icon bottom right that looks like a painters' palette and brush, then tap widget, scroll to settings and tap, then tap the mobile icon symbol. This will add to home screen and tapping will toggle 3g on/off.

Hey Lio52,

Thanks for you option - only i'm not too sure I understand it correctly.

I run Gingerbread 2.3.4 on a nexus 1.

Do you mean taping the "search" button to start the process. The icon looking like the magnifying glass??

the only way I can get the widget option is by long pressing any of the home screens and then I get the option of inserting short-cuts, folders, widgets and wall-paper.

Happy to accept I got something wrong - If you wouldnt mind explaining it again.

cheers,

Great Dane

Using long tap on home screen, then go to widgets, then scroll to settings and tap, then scroll down to Mobile Network and tap. This should install a widget on your home screen that allows you to toggle 3g on and off as you require.

This is how I did it on an HTC Sensation running Gingerbread 2.3.3

Hope this helps

Hi Lio52,

Sorry but I dont have that option - must be a sense thing.
I go long tap, then widget but I dont have a settings option.

thanks for effort.

Install Widgetsoid. This allows you to put a 4x1 widget on your screen which you can populate with toggles. Alternatively, you can also put it on the notification bar to save up screen space. When you pull the notification bar down you would see a row of toggles. Widgetsoid can also put toggles on almost anything on your phone. I have a toggle for WiFi tethering, data connected, 2g/3g toggle, force data sync, airplane mode, screen on permanent and vibrate toggle on it.

To add it, just install, then long tab>widgets>look for widgetsoid switcher (choose a size), then it would take you to a settings menu where you choose what toggles you want to put. The bottom bar is scrollable so you can see tabs for the toggles (network toggles, screen toggles, etc).
