Help 2g data connection prob and gps

Hi all. My S3 will not operate data connection via 2g edge?
I live and work in an area that doesn't have 3g, my old HTC had no issues and this has made checking emails etc impossible. pretty disappointed with this. I have the national roaming setting enabled and done a factory reset and still no joy. anyone able to help??
Also the gps dont work either, was on honeymoon in asia and it didn't work, my wifes iphone worked ok??

Hi, welcome to the forums! Sorry, I can't be much help, I'm on a cdma network and we have 1x to fall back on instead of EDGE. I have noticed this phone doesn't work well at all with a slow data connection. Pages seem to time out quickly, etc. I think it may have to do with some battery saving settings Samsung has implemented. If you can't even check email that's pretty bad. I would take it back to the carrier and make sure there's not a hardware problem.

Also, Opera Mini browser is a life saver with a slow data connection. Try it out if you haven't already.
 
Hi. thanks for reply.! I'm on the Three network in the UK and have been on their customer support 4 times, one guy suggested I sell the phone as it cannot receive 2g data!
But all the samsung specs say it can, from 2g -4g
Do you think my operator has fiddled with the handset?
I bet they get a lot of enquiries regarding slow handset performance but its actually the slower data connection that is the problem so they have disabled it?? I'm nearly convinced this is the case!!
Can anyone give me a step by step check process?

Hard to believe it wouldn't be compatible with 2G at all. Sounds like there's something wrong with the phone, or maybe you just have a bad SIM card.
