3.1 update...

Just took delivery of my Transformer (in the uk) and the first thing it did was to update to 3.1! I didn't know we even had it in the uk yet!
Nice surprise though and so far, am very pleased with the tablet. Video quality seems to be a big improvement over my old Xoom - probably the 3.1 update is responsible for this.

I have a XOOM and I'm wondering what is the big differences or advantage between the XOOM and the transformer ?

Thanx

Try terms like "comparison between xoom and eee pad transformer"
or read reviews of both, they usually compare them.

To me the biggest difference is that the KEYBOARD is designed specifically to make the tablet like a netbook. It's got an extra battery, and works very very well with the tablet.

1) Xoom's screen is not as good as the TF
2) At present, Xoom's SD card slot doesn't work, TF's does.
3) Xoom has a Barometer (yes, a barometer!) TF doesn't.
4) TF does not have haptic feedback, Xoom does
5) Xoom has a notification LED, TF doesn't
6) Xoom comes in 32gb, TF is 16 or 32gb
7) Xoom seems to charge a little quicker than TF.
8) No official 3.1 update for Xoom as yet in the UK. TF already on 3.1
9) WiFi better and more consistant on TF. Could be linked to 3.1 though
10) Xoom is heavier and a little more slippery as it's smooth on the back.
11) The TF has a wider bezel than the Xoom. Makes it easier to hold without fingerprints on the screen and fingers getting in the way of the screen while watching.

I think that's about it but i've probably missed something major...

I was reading that many tf's have problems with bleeding screens, whatever that means, and that the speakers on the tf are not as good as the XOOM, is this true?

Thanx

The bleeding screen is due to the stigmata. You see, the Transformer is the Jesus tablet.

It turns water into whine... when you spill it on your tablet. Yeah, it's that friggin' miraculous.

It can walk on water. Well, it can skip across the top of the water due to that nice aerodynamic shape. Which it will also then turn into whine. (See previous comment)

So there you go, proof that the TF is the Jesus tablet. :p

Bleeding screen is where you can see the 'backlight' around the edges, like on a cheap wristwatch. The only time I've noticed it is when it's PITCHDARK and I'm watching a movie with lots of dark scenes. Even then, it's not a big deal for me. Anyone wanting "perfection" should go elsewhere.

Haven't touched a XOOM, but the TF has ok speakers. They're weaker than my laptop (cheap 2yr old Gateway) to begin with, and apparently there's a hardware or software problem that the rightside is noticeably louder than the left. Upgrading to Honeycomb 3.1 helped some, but it's still a minor issue.

That being said, I think it was worth the $550US, I enjoy movies, games, emailing from bed, etc... all after I played music at work all day- on ONE charge.

The speakers on the xoom have slightly better bass response but they face away from the user as they are on the back of the tablet. The TF speakers, on the other hand, are on the side of the tablet so they actuality give better stereo separation although they do lack a bit of bass.
Hope this helps!

I'm in the same boat, selling my wifi xoom and going for the eee pad,is it alot better would you say?

bought mine yesterday in the UK, still awaiting the 3.1 update. as the update been pulled or something? Heard the 3.1 recently released was a lil buggy?

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been pulled but I am unable to update. Asus support are trying to help me but they aren't being much use to be fair. They directed me to a specific UK download for the Eee pad off the Asus site which instals fine. Trouble is when I check I'm still version 3.0.1. Tried it twice with no success. Starting to lose the will to live

Yup getting the samething, only just logged a call with asus support. Even typing this on the tablet android keyboard is pretty unresponsive and really lags...hope 3.1 sorts this out

Finally got it sorted. Asus support came back and asked me to factory reset before trying again and to erase all other files from the micro sd card apart from the update. Thought i'd try without the factory reset but i did format the sd card and it worked. I would link the update from the Asus site but depending where you are in the world I think there are quite a few versions.

Hopefully that will work for you to Eddiewawa.

Excellent.

Its a shame that Asus support don't have their shit in order and produce a little guide with all the instructions in one place. Took me 3 or 4 emails to get all the info that I needed to succesfully update and they could of put it all in the first email they sent me or an FAQ on their website.

Still I should be thankful to have sorted it now.
