Help 3.5mm headphone jack on the fritz - HTC Desire HD

I bought my Deisre HD in 2011, the problem i have with it is when i put my headphones in the 3.5mm jack the icon on the screen shows headphones with a mic, which makes the phone fast forward and rewind songs, skip and pause songs, stop playing them altogether and then when i unlock the phone it wants me to call some random person from my contacts.
frustrating to say the least

Is there any way to fix this?
As i dont know how transfer all all my notes and other app data in case of a factory reset or a new phone

Have just been trying to find an app that would force your phone to ignore headphones with mic... will post back if I find something!
