I strongly recommend against any of the verizon "certified" devices. If you have an upgrade, get yourself a new device from amazon or a reseller for the same (or lower) price.

I am on my 5th CLN Charge and am sending this one back tomorrow due to glitches and poor performance. They say its better than out of the box because of their 100 point check and repair bs but all have had problems I have received.

Totally agree w/ the above 2 posts. DO NOT get a CLN phone, they are garbage. Just pay the extra $100 for the brand new charge ( $299 new vs. $199 CLN ). Also you are probably going to get your last new every two discount so that will make it even lower. Every CLN phone I have ever had has never worked properly. Don't cut corners to save a couple extra $, its just not worth it. Don't make the enjoyment of using your upgrade a nightmare.

I am now on my third CLN charge. The first one, new, had a list of problems. The second one worked great, but the buttons at the bottom were very loose and the back physical button barely worked. The very recent third CLN phone works great except for the data issue which I am reading a lot of people are having problems with.

I think it is in very bad taste for verizon to give a customer a CLN phone to replace an expensive phone that has problems within the first 30 days. HOwever, this is so typical of verizon and why I left them in the first place. I have returned only because they are the only cell service in my area that actually works.

Good Luck with whatever choice you make!

I am on my second CLN phone from verizon, first was a Fascinate. then we had the whole 2.2 fiasco where fascinates had issues with never having signal/never receiving phone calls/texts... so I was given an option to get a CLN Charge... I had the fascinate for 5 months no issues except the ones that others had with it. so far no problems with my Charge.
you dont need to go to verizon to get your phone, there are plenty of other certified retailers who can do exactly what verizon can do and generally for cheaper.
If I wasnt on a business plan (verizon stores only) I would have gone though Best Buy, they have great prices and their people actually seem to know what is going on. I go into Best Buy for questions all the time because I know that most of the ppl working there have owned/experienced the phones and actually enjoy it.
having just been there to get a case and invisible shield for my charge i know that Best buy has the Charge for 199, no mail in rebates like what verizon tries to do.

Stay VERY far away from CLN. I have not gotten a single CLN device that I havent had an issue with.
I also find it to be a load of BS that they want to take my brand new device and replace it with a CLN. The data connection issue is VERY unacceptable, yet, I'd gladly deal with it over a CLN device that is bound to have the same issue AND more.

Really, the devil you know vs the devil you dont.

Well this sucks. I currently have a Thunderbolt and I love the phone but I have gone through 6 CLN for various reasons. Phone not put back together, power button sunken in and stuck, no water damage indicators. The most recent one I took into the Verizon store to show them the crap they keep sending me and they basically said yup thats a POS send it back and get another. After talking to customer support they gave me the option to try a Revolution or Charge CLN so im on here researching the phones to see if I want to try a switch. Looks like the CLN problems are not Thunderbolt only related. Sucks getting a CLN in the mail only to open it and realize you got somone elses garbage.

They gave me the same options for replacements along with the option of just about any 3g phone. I filed a complaint with the better buisness bureau and they have contacted verizon. Just waiting to hear back. They have till the 25 to reply to them and figure out what to do. I havent tried either of those other two phones except at the store, where of course they have full signal and run smooth and didnt care for either of them. I have heard the HTC has had many issues though and the lg is too new so I havent read much on it. The idea that they have the Lg already is scary and the reason they gave was because other countries get technology first meaning you could be getting some refurb from Europe or where ever they start out.

They also gave me the option of trading in my Charge with their trade in program that gives you what the current value of the phone is worth. Then using it towards a new phone that way. But they only give you credit that can be used with verizon so my options are limited. Good luck with yours and keep at them. They will make you better offers the more you do.

With At&t, I brought a Samsung Captivate(Refurb) and I never had an issue out of it.
It looked and performed just like my brother's brand new Captivate.

With T-mobile, I had to buy a refurb mytouch 4g and still no issues.

I have never used Verizon's refurb program but a lot of my friends have and the reviews are mixed. My friend's OG droid was CLN and it gave him so much trouble.

Another friend of mine has a CLN and it works perfectly fine to them and they have owned it for like...8 months.

If you are like me and you get a new phone, every month(I am surprised I still own a Droid Charge and Xperia Play) then i'd get the CLN if you plan to replace it and get something better in a few months.

But if you plan to keep it for the full 2 years(or longer than 3 months), then pony up the extra money and get yourself a brand new phone :)

Besides, i think the warranty is significantly lower. Tmobile/At&t only provided a 90 day warranty. Not sure with VZ

I had the missed call issue with my Fascinate and after seeing that people were able to get a CLN Charge from Verizon at no cost and no push back of your upgrade date I went for it. Had my Charge now for over a month and it looks and performs brand new. Just remember, those who have problems with their products tend to be the most vocal... doesn't mean that every (or even most) CLN devices are crap. Mine's been great. (FYI, I rooted and ROMed it within 24 hours of receiving it so its by no means "factory stock out of the box" so I can't speak for what my opinion would be if I'd left it as it was)

Can't speak for the CLN Charge, but before getting the Charge I was was a Droid X owner. Over the course of the year I was an X user I got 2 CLN Xs. Original X I got on release date just went belly up one day out of the blue and so I got a CLN as a replacement - and that died from an OTA update.

Both CLNs, other than the first one being killed by the OTA, were great. Never an issue with either one, both were solid, and ran great. 2nd CLN met an unfortunate water death from my son's camelback.... hence the new CHarge. But it worked great for months up until that point!

But as far as my experience with CLNs - it's been great and have no issues getting another if that ever had to happen.

I had 3 Charges (new not CLN) in the first 35 days of coming back to VZW.

Be wary that the return rate for this phone is HIGH so the chances of you getting one of our POS phones is HIGH as well.

All a CLN is, is a wiped device, and they turn it on and test it for issues on the spot. They fail to test it being used heavily, or for everyday stuff. In some cases, they just wipe and repackage, with broken buttons and all!

I would stay away from CLN, ESPECIALLY for this particular phone.

I was lucky because VZW tried pulling that "trade in for full priced phone" crap and i flipped. Yeah my d3 will be here tomorrow and it's new not CLN.

Didn't read through all of the posts but NEVER buy a CLN phone from Verizon....EVER. Seriously only hell and damn nation awaits you if you choose to do so. YES IT'S THAT BAD!!!

Truer words have never be spoken my friend.

Although USUALLY true, my Moto Droid3 is a CLN and it's perfect. Guess i'm lucky!!!!!

My Samsung Droid Charge? NO DONT DO CLN!!!!!!!! AGREE 100%%%%%%%%

i just got a CPO, and it works great so far (only 1 week)... but the great idea behind this is that it is still covered under the 1-year warranty, and if anything goes wrong, VZW will give you another CPO free (just like those that got new phones). not to mention the $100 savings...
The hassle of getting 6 CPO phones replaced in a little over a year is enough for me to say a big FU to Verizon and their CPO bull. They wanted to switch out my charge for a CPO and I told them to go smoke a pole, I will NOT go down that road again. That's the whole reason I bought a new phone in the first place, I was tired of having to setup my phone every time their POS failed on me.
CPO phones and having sex with a prostitute are in the same league. Sure, you may get a good one, but the vast majority of them have an STD.

you may be right, but at the end of the day, you need to decide if that $100 savings is worth it to you. to me, it was worth a shot - so far, so good. and I still have to wait just like everyone else for Gingerbread's official release...
