Help 3g doesnt work anymore

xelliotz

Newbie
I have a button on my home on my desire that connects me to 3g.. but it doesnt work anymore. I've tried going manually and turning on 3g and it just doesnt work anymore, so I can't access internet when not on wifi anymore... so I might aswell just have a nokia 3310 or whatever now haha

Do you mean you can't connect to 3g network or can't turn data on? These are different things.

Check your APN settings is my first thought.

Well I haven't changed anything, I turn on 3G... and nothing happens, I don't know what else to say haha but that's all that goes on I'm afraid

And your mobile data is set on as well as 3G mode enabled?

If so, check APN settings. It doesn't matter that you've not changed anything, check them anyway. We need to eliminate simple things like this before looking for other causes.

You can test whether you are connecting to 3g by doing the following: open your phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*. You don't need to hit the call button, this should put you straight through to the "Testing" menu (though I think Three UK remove this in their software). Select Phone Information and see what it says for "Network type", "Preferred network type" and "GPRS service".

Ok, so you are connected to the 3g network, but data is off.

Have you checked your mobile data and APN settings? If mobile data is enabled and the APNs are ok it might be worth talking to your network to make sure they haven't messed up your account settings. If you can get hold of another handset for a few minutes, try your sim in that (will tell us whether it's a sim/account problem or the handset).

Ah, HTC probably mess with the menu a bit - it's been > 2 years since I used Sense, so I don't recall details of what changes they make very well. It should be somewhere in the wireless and network settings.

What network are you on?

Were you previously Orange or T-Mobile? I ask because my APN settings haven't changed with the rebranding as EE.

Funny thing is that every site I find in my searches seems to say that the APN settings should be about where I said they'd be. Is this a branded handset?

No, CPW sell unlocked/unbranded handsets. That's even weirder then - the setting really should be there.

What's your full software version (from the about phone menu)?

BTW I am going to have to go offline now - sorry.
