3g - Droid

My Samsung Galaxy S captivate from Rogers comes with us 2.1 and I'm trying to upgrade to 2.2. From what I have learned I need things samsung kies software to upgrade to 2.2? I cant seem to get Kies to connect to my phone and stays in the 'connecting..' phase. Can someone point in me the right direction?
