Help 3G help with Mesmerize

My Samsung Mesmerize will pick up 3G for just a few seconds and then it goes back to "1X" again. I am in an area where all of my fellow US Cellular friends do have 3G...and I did have it with my Blackberry. Frustrating!

I have done battery pulls, reset the phone and everything I know to do! Please help! Is there some setting that turns on the 3G coverage on the phone??????? Thanks!

Get t the speed test app from the market to see how quick your running... I have noticed that my phone might say 1x from time to time, but downloads over 1mb/sec. That's not 1x. Lol! Seems to show up when texts happen a stuff like that. May not really be on 1x.

My wife and I have the same problem (on both phones) and I have been searching everywhere for clues. Online speed test numbers show 100k down 62k up. Using wifi at home makes it liveable but traveling is a struggle. There is significant lag with maps and trouble with streaming (i.e.Pandora, etc.). Does anyone have suggestions?

I had this same issue occur to me constantly. I live in a household with all US Cellular users, and no one else had the signal issues I was having with my phone. I called tech support and they suggested a factory reset, saying some phones have a software glitch out of box. I did the reset, and it did help some. In fact, it took the problem away outdoors, but I still had issues indoors.

To try to help the indoor issue, I have also bought one of those $2 antenna booster stickers, which actually helped.

I also live rural, so I decided to buy a passive repeater for about $10, which made a much improved signal.

I should mention that it could be defective. If the factory reset hadn't made any difference, they were gonna have me swap phones.
