Help 3G indicator icon goes on and off

My 3G indicator goes off quite frequently. I know it is not the network or a reception issue as my Blackberry never loses a 3G connection in the same areas. Happens to me at regular places I visit such as home and the office.

I believe they were hinting at the fact you can specify using Wi-Fi connections where available over data connections....this is of course assuming your Wi-Fi radio is on at the time.

I can't imagine not having a data plan. There are so many times I would be lost without data.

I just refuse to be ripped off by my carrier. Cheapest data plan is $25 for 500mb. One reason why I got the Nexus One is because I'm not forced into a data plan...something that the carrier does if you sign a (3 years) contract for their smart phones.
