3g issue or not?

Every time I unlock my phone I notice that it does the sending arrow for about half a second then both sending and receiving at the same time for about a second. Is this normal? I know that over the day I unlock my phone quite a lot and that has to effect the battery slightly. Any ideas? I don't have any back ground apps (to my knowledge) that would need to send and receive data?

It's normal.

It's just the system shaking hands with your device, along with whatever syncing you may have configured in apps and widgets (Weather, etc).
