3g mobile hotspot

Has anyone used their Incredible 2 as a 3G mobile hotspot? If yes, what's involved? I'm clueless about these things so wondering what exactly I need to do. I know it's an add'l charge from Verizon, yes? I have a WIFI Ipad but our home internet connection is horrible and keeps dropping out, so I'm considering going for this. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Greetings used,

There really isn't anything too difficult with wifi-teathering. There are a few apps available that allow you to use this function, without the b.s $30 fee Verizon wants. That being said, beware that Verizon has begun to throttle connections that they deem "over-the-norm (2-GIG), so if you start pulling large numbers of band width prepare to face the consequences. I'm speaking from a unlimited account use viewpoint, if your on a Tiered service, then that 2-Gig number doesn't mean anything, as you will be bound by the amount of service you have on your account. Overages on a tiered service can get expensive quickly.

I think a couple are...

1.Barncle
2.Pdanet

There are others available on the market.

Mobile hot spots are easy to use.

1. Start the app
2. Name your hotspot
3. Assign your wanted level of protection...IE.. WEP,WPA so forth.
4. Assign password
5. Turn on hot spot.
6. On your Ipad, turn on wifi and it should see your hot spot that you just created.
6. Connect to said hot spot.
7.Enjoy

It's $20, not $30. And it can be pro rated, meaning that you can use it when you need to at $0.67/day.

Pdanet does WiFi tethering? I thought it was only wired, via usb. I haven't used it yet on the Inc2, but I used it often on my Eris. Wired, though.

And Barnacle requires Root, does it not? Just setting the record straight for the OP.
I don't think Verizon goes after people who do wired tethering; it's the wireless hotspot that they looking to charge you for.

As I said, I tethered my pc via usb plenty of times using pdanet and easytether. I don't have an iPad or an Android tab, so I don't know if you can tether them with a wire; both apps required installing software on my pc in order to use them. I haven't done it in a long while, so I don't know what newer versions require.
