Root 3G not working with AOSP ROMs

I know that many of you may have had the 3G connection loss problem. I too had it for two weeks, and it is quite frusturating.

I hate sense. A lot of you probably do as well.

The fix right now for me is to stay on sense. When I update the profile, 3G starts working. When I change over to an AOSP ROM, most preferably CM 4.2.2 Wild for the Night, my 3G goes bye bye.

I hope there is a fix for this. Flashing AOSP after the update profile breaks 3G, and flashing back to sense makes me have to update the profile AGAIN in order to get 3G working.

Thanks for any help guys. SENSE SUCKS!

Did you do a clean wipe?? I'm running wild for the night 4.2.2 and I've never had 3g issues..is rare when I see 1x..
Only problem i ran into was GPS... And sometimes my screen wont unlock and stays off when that happens i got to do a battery pull...

Yes, full wipe. What is weird is that 3G only works on sense Roms. I've tried cm10 as well, doesn't work on it either.

Most of the signal problems would be fix with a simple turn off phone. Wait a miinute and turn back on. I was running Wild for the night and had no problems regarding signals/gps.

I tried the ##786# fix. It didn't work. I really want to stay away from RUUs. I hope there's another fix.

The RUU is the ultimate recovery tool. I've flashed roms, changed hboots, radios, and what not and overtime, my phone became very unstable. Flashing roms would cause bootloops. I ran the RUU and it fixed the problems I was having. It just take maybe 15 minutes of your time to flash the RUU if you're S-off. Then you can start flashing again problem free.

I don't know RUU for a single issue is like wiping windows because you have a bad registry value and cannot open microsoft word.

There has to be a reason for this and it has to have a less severe option than this.

Granted this may be a fix, but it would be nice to know why this is occurring with all AOSP based roms so it can be avoided in the future or built into the flash, I can confirm both G60's and wild are doing this right now.

Personally I wiped my windows partition and really don't want to re-install windows or configure seemless usb support on a VM.

Call me lazy but I think it is probably even lazier to call this a permanent solution.

Not using the RUU is like putting Windows 2000 drivers on a Windows 7 system and then trying to clean them up and replace them with the correct version instead of doing a clean install.

The problems that people are having with 3G on AOSP based ROM's seem to be related to provisioning problems that may have to do with recent network "upgrades", but all the activation and provisioning is based on a known stock configuration.

Installing the RUU eliminates all the variables that flashing bits and pieces of firmware creates. It may not in itself resolve the problem but puts the phone into a configuration that should work with the re-initialization and diagnostic procedures.

The various reset options that have worked for some in this situation were designed to force phone activation and other forms of resets that the carrier has tested with a configuration identical to what the RUU provides.

If that doesn't make sense or you prefer to troubleshoot another way that's fine as YMMV.

Look I am telling you right Now Ramjet73 is 1000000% correct ya thats right .. I said 1000000% correct.. I was having the same issue.. identical to what you are having. Ramjet suggested the RUU. I was highly skeptical.. extremeley skeptical.. I COULDNT SEE HOW IT WOULD FIX MY PROBLEMS... BUT IT DID !!!!!!-- Just listem to him ....He is very experienced and a wealth of knowledge... just do it . It only takes 10 minutes and is well worth it...

Ramjet, is there a specific procedure on flashing an RUU? I want to make sure my phone does not brick.
Yes, S-OFF users can use this one.

Don't panic if it hangs after flashing the stock bootloader as it's very common to have to restart it when it is run with a custom hboot installed. If you want to avoid that you can flash the stock (1.57) hboot before flashing the RUU.

Alright, so no need to lock the bootloader?

Also, I want to make sure that I am using the correct RUU.

I am downloading this one right now: RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.2_Radio_1.06.00.0426_NV_1.53_144_release_262287_signed.exe

I am in the USA on Virgin Mobile. Is this the correct one?

Thanks for your help.

I may have run into a problem.

The installer tried booting the phone into the bootloader, and the phone booted into my ROM.

Do I just re run the RUU?

Yes.

Are you flashing the RUU from Windows or the bootloader? If it's Windows, try putting the phone into "fastboot usb" mode before starting the RUU.

Ran the RUU, took the OTA, flashed JBear 1.50.5050, now downloading Harmonia to get the PG86IMG.img off of my sdcard, then gonna try and flash WILD FOR THE NIGHT and see if it works!

Ramjet, you're my savior man. It worked and my 3G is back on my favorite ROM.

Now, time to go like and thank every post that you've written on both Android Forums and XDA.. I'm in for a long night.. :p
