3g on android tablet

Hi everyone

I have a HTC Wildfire and a Chinese 7 inch android tablet (maipad). I can get WiFi on the tablet but not 3g althouth it is advertised as having the function and has the list of protocols. It doesn't have a sim card slot. Does anyone know how to connect the HTC phone to the tablet to receive a 3g signal on it? Or do I need to buy a dongle.

Sim cards are used for GSM networks. Will the are globally predominant, there are other technologies out there that do not require sim cards. Verizon's CDMA network, for example.
