Help 3g Speed drop

Here is an odd issue, I am in NYC and get great connection speeds, often over 3000kbs. Then out of no where it drops to 600k, while my other phone, a mytouch still gets over 3000 right next to the N1. If i turn on airplane mode and then off, i start getting over 3000 again. Any ideas anyone?

Are you holding the phone differently each time you do a test? Are you standing in the exact same spot?

I see my signal strength going from 4 to 1 to 4 to none sometimes in a matter of 1 minute standing in the exact same spot. Its really frustrating. Sometimes I have 3 or 4 bars and it wont even let me make a call.
