Help 3g to receive pictures?

Why do you have to have 3g on to receive MMS? I have a strong wifi signal, but when I hit the download button on the text message it just sits there until I enable 3g. Is this using data? I thought using wifi was a way around using data.

Yeah you have to use 3G to send and receive pictures and video. For some reason it will not send using WIFI. Stinks!

I have no problem sending/receiving pictures with Wi-Fi turned on, this is with both a rooted and non-rooted commando, Maybe its your Wi-Fi settings? not on the phone, but the network your using?

Only way to send and receive MMS. Something to do with the programming. I even went to Verizon and the tech guy said its more dependable for transmitting pics and larger files. I called FOUL since my WiFi in my home has no problem sending and receiving anything.

He could not come up with an answer.
