3g vs 4g

You can only get 4G if you have a 4G enabled phone, and your carrier has 4G, and there is 4G signal in your place. Doesn't matter if you have a 4G phone if there is no 4G service where you are.

Don't know about your carrier, but with TMO - I can get almost anything.

TMO is starting to deploy 1900 band -

If I'm is range of that band - phone says H (HSPDA) Elsewhere, it will say 3G. If location is really bad it will go to E.

I have an older Nexus S. I also have an SGS4G that did the same. Depended on where I was.

BTW - Colorado Springs is one of the worst cities for reception. All the carriers can have trouble due to terrain. My signal bounces all over. Friend on Sprint loses voice when going up and down hills. Others had Verizon and switched to Sprint since signal was better. Go figure.

I bet you're on Sprint, whose LTE coverage is very limited as they're transitioning from Wimax. If so one day soon this year you will hopefully be enjoying fast 4g speeds

your phone can use 4G and 3G and 1X and WIFI.....

depending on the area you are in.. what service is available to you.
if you have all the radios on... and then the phone will connect to the service that it can find in that area... in this order: WIFI, 4G, 3G, 1X.

so, does your carrier have 4G (must be LTE) in your area???
