Root 3G with screen off

So, I have been searching and searching with no luck, but I want to be able to enable 3G while my screen is off. I know this will take a ton of battery, but I hate having to keep my screen on when downloading something, otherwise the download breaks. I know this is possible when tethering is turned on, but that takes even more battery... Just seeing if anyone has any ideas? Thanks.

3G should allways be enabled

Are you using something like Juice Defender or tasker or the like. Some of these automatically put the phone into airplane mode when the screen is off.

Unless you have an app killing it then it should be always on.

I don't have any apps like juice defender or an app killing app. Just the backside rom but actually right now I'm on the alpha port of ics!

But it always seems like it goes off with the screen cuz my downloads break

Ics is in alpha so that's your problem it doesn't work right yet
