3g works to lol

i put my phone in airplane mode to reset my signal when i turned off airplane mode i had 3g so i turned airplane mode on the off again and it went back to 4g :D
so at least i know if i ever lose my 4g signal it will have 3g.

how you get 3g..i live in tampa..and on prl 3019
 
That's good to know, I wish I could test this myself. I just looked at the coverage map and I'm located in a huge patch of LTE coverage.
 
SOB! After I put the 3024 PRL I'm getting 3G at home. I would usually get 1x.


I hate the coverage at home. The minute I step into my apartment I lose 4G instantly and I get 1x. So it's nice to have 3G even though I have my wifi.

Nothing against you, but please provide pics, or proof, as well as area/zip code if possible.
 
this does work..i live in the miami,fl 33162 area, around 5:15pm- 5:25pm yesterday I noticed it did this. I had 4g, It changed to 3g & when I got home it fell to 1x..I toggled airplane mode to make it boot back to 4g

What PRL are you on? I can't believe we have 3G down here now
 
So you guys all forced it onto the phone from the Optimus right? How come Metro hasn't updated the Esteem's PRL to 3024 yet like they have with the Optimus?

I had to force the optimus as well when i had it. Depends on location. I'm guessing in miami they are still working on upgrading the towers and will push an update when they are finished
 
Updated to prl 3024 yesterday and when I usually get 1x at home I was now getting 3g. 4g most places with the occasional 3g now.

That was the same experience I had; I will test 3G as I go out and about later. I expect everything will be great! Metro has coverage maps here: http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/413991-metro-pcs-3g-coverage-map.html But, I got that on my Optimus M.. I'm in the wrong forum; considering an upgrade.
 
Wonder if battery drain is as bad when downloading at 3G on this phone compared to 4G. If it's not then I wouldn't mind forcing 3G most of the time
 
Ok I just updated to the 3024 PRL and forced CDMA mode so that the phone would never go into 4G, and only use 3G or 1X. Well I did some download tests in 3G, and it didn't matter if I had 1 bar of signal or 4, the speeds were barely faster than 1X. This can't be the 3G people have been talking about because this is useless. What speeds are you guys pulling on 3G? With 3G on the speed test app, I only got 200kbps down..right after pulling 3000kbps down on 4G.

Same here, not many people here give proof or post speed and zip code, it would be very useful to know this information.

As for me, I'm not rooted yet (waiting on something more oficial), but I upgraded to 3024 PRL, and haven't been able to go into 1x or 3G ever since. How do you force CMDA?

Our 3g in sfl is capped at 150kbps and our 4g seems to be capped at 2500kbps. If anyone from sfl who got faster let me know

I think you mean 150kbps and 2500kbps instead of mpbs. If our 4G were at 2500mbps that would mean we could download 18 gigs a minute LOL. But I was under the impression that 1X was 150kbps and that 3G was going to be a little better than that..though it doesn't look like it to me?

As far as 4G goes, I hit 3770kbps today, which isn't too far from 500kb/sec, and I'm in SFL, so it's good enough for me heh.

yea. im used to saying 16mbps for my wifi at my house and i accidently put that.

It looks like the only reason for the 3g is to take strain off the 1x.
 
If 3G is barely going to be any better than 1X speeds, than this entire forced PRL stuff I messed around with today was a waste. Sigh :rolleyes:
