Help 3gD means 3g is dormant? Help please

Ok so if my title theory is correct than that may answer my other question that I have.
But ok 3gD means 3g is off. Ok I have that down.

Now my problem is why does 3g switch to 3gD when I download a song a video or an app.

Let's say I am downloading an app. I leave my phone alone to complete downloads. I return about a minute later to check progress and the download appears paused. I check my 3g and it is appearing as 3gD. I just would like to know why my phone would go into 3gD if it's supposed to be using data to download.

Any opinions? I appreciate it and thanks in advance.

I apologize if I was not clear before sorry and again thank you for your thoughts.

Nice stream of conscience!

I think I was able to translate the run-on sentences into this: "Does the "d" on my 3G symbol mean that I am not getting 3G signal?"

Answer: Yes

Ok but I doubt it is my signal because when I commense a download everything is fine. Only that when I leave phone and return the data streaming is "paused"?
I just want to know why and if I could do something to stop my phone from doing that.

If it happens every time you try to download something, no matter where you are, then yes, I would be willing to suspect something is up with your phone.

If it happens every time you try to download something, while sitting in your living room, then try doing it in a different area first.

I'm no expert, but did you try a battery pull with your phone ON? When my phone is acting abnormal, that usually helps.

Well it's happened in my room, my living roomm and my bathroom lol. And well i figured that if i surf the web while downloading, it will work fine. Since surfing keeps the 3g active. But i don't know what else to think about it up to now. I'll see if it continues seeing as i just got this replacement on Tuesday.
By the way how could i know if this phone has had the 2.2 patch? I haven't had any missed calls or texts till this date but i just want to know if it has the patch installed already

Well no i haven't yet but next time it doesn't download right i'll do a battery pull. (hopefully i do not have to do that as i hear that battery pulls mess up phones just like computers and laptops)
Thank U for your opinions and advice

Go to settings-->about phone. At the bottom there is a build number. If your number ends with EC10, you have the original 2.2 "missed calls" update. If it ends with EE19, you have the latest update.

Thank you I saw the info and i'm still on the original 2.2 do I have to go into usc store to get the update?

Unfortunately, yes.

The update completely wipes your phone, so be sure to make a backup of your contacts.

Aww another wipe? Darn. Now by any chance do you know of a way to save your apps from the wipe? I don't want to redownload my apps allllllllllllllllll over again.........

I have used Mini Kies to update 4 phones and none of which had their data wiped for the EE19 patch. You can use Mini Kies rather than go to the Store if you would prefer.

True, but given the issues they had with the mini kies updates the last time around, a full wipe install is not a bad thing.

Okay so mini kies is a nono? But i'm guessing ill go to store but when my bill cycle resets. That way I won't exceed my limit and guys thank you very much for the help especially LaTuFuyou were very helpful. Thank you.

You won't exceed any limits by taking your phone into the store for the upgrade. For that matter, you won't affect your data plan if you do it via mini kies. Your PC downloads the update, not your phone.

Glad I could help.

Do you have a home wireless network? If so, turn on your phone's wifi and re-download all of your apps. No data charges that way.

For what it's worth, I don't think that the EE19 patch helps with the 3GD issue. In fact, it seems like it actually made it worse for me.

Has anyone figured out anything to do about this? It has been driving me nuts lately, especially when I want to use the wifi tethering function.

The only alternative I am aware of, until USCC releases another update, is to root and run a custom ROM. Which will either help the problem or open a whole new can of worms for you.
