If you are using a 3rd party app like sms pro can you go into apps and disable the default messaging app or will this mess it up?

However you definitely should go in to your native messaging app and turn off the notifications.. quite often you'll get a notification from both apps which is quite irritating...

not sure you can't disable the native app via a third party app. that seems to be an option within handcent.

go sms can stand totally alone i use go sms pro and i delete the native sms app. in go settings you will see under iportant tips deleted mms app check it. hope this helps you

All that does is disable notifications, Handcent still needs the actual stock messaging app to function (unless things have changed in ICS).

in the application settings there's an option to set handcent as the default messaging app while disabling stock and all other third-party apps. i don't know if it works, but it's more than just notifications.

The OP was talking about the apps menu though, not in the SMS app (that's how I interpreted it anyway, I could obviously be wrong :)). You cannot disable/delete the stock messaging app and have handcent or any other 3rd Party app work for SMS.

Despite the way it's worded in the apps description, all the option does is turn notifications in the stock app off and set handcent as the default SMS app.

Exactly what I meant. Thanks all.
