4.2 not playing .wavs in gmail

Just upgraded my Nexus to 4.2 and the .wav links in the gmail-emails no longer play. It seems my phone is trying to do something for a second but then nothing happens. Before I did the upgrade to 4.2 the .wav and .mp3 links would play. I'm hoping the fix is something in the settings where I have to tap a build number or something 7 times but I just don't have the time. Somebody here have a solution?

It's a google samsung nexus 3 bought from the playstore running on the net10 provider if that is of any help.

I think I may have posted this to the wrong forum. It probably belongs to the GSM forum? If so would one of the forum Gods please move this posting to the correct forum. Thanks. :-(

If you open your Gmail app and go in to the settings to choose the notification sound, does the sound play when you choose it?
 
Not sure if I know how to do what you ask. So I guessed. I opened gmail and then the email containing the link to a .wav I would normally click on to listen. Then I pressed the bottom right three dots that are sort of stacked on top of each other. I then selected settings from the popup that resulted from choosing it. Then chose "General settings" and looked for anything that might have to do with sound. There was nothing.

So I went back to the email and from there used a two finger swipe starting at the top of the screen to get to the sort of like control panel. From there I chose "settings" and then "Sound". Then under "Default notification" where "Proxima" is chosen I reselected it and indeed heard the sound.

Still I feel I'm not doing what it was you specified. Can you elaborate with exact steps if I did not do this right?

Open Gmail, then tap on the Menu, then tap on Settings, then tap on your gmail email address, then tap on Sound & Vibrate, then tap on Sound. Choose the sound you want to hear from the list. The next time you get an email you should hear the sound you chose.

You lost me a little in your first paragraph though. Did you send yourself a sound file via email? If so, are you downloading and saving the sound to your internal SD card and moving the sound to your Notifications folder?
 
Thanks for the detailed instructions. After following the instructions I sent myself an email from another account and heard neither the sound or vibrate notification.

When I don't answer the phone I get an email with a link to the voice message that was left for me. So normally I would just open the email and click on the link and it would play. Perhaps it would download the .wav file and play it all automatically. (I'm not sure of how it would handle it but I did not need to do anything other than click on it.)
 
I take that back. Now I'm getting the sound and such when an email arrives. However the original problem still exists.
 
I think Chugworth has some valuable input there. Give their suggestion a try and let us know how it goes!
 
I am thinking this is some sort of bug they introduced into 4.2 and will be quickly fixed or that there is an option Google simply adjusted that I can set back. How does one discover if this is a bug Google is fixing or if it's just a setting?
 
Did you try Chugworths suggestion? It could be like Chug said where that particular sound file type is no longer supported in 4.2, and that app may help you.
