Help 4.4 KitKat on GS4

Is there any problem upgrading my phone to 4.4 KitKat as on GottaBeMobile's last week's post, please?
Sorry if you find my question silly because I'm new here and trying to get around.

That's not Android 4.4. It's only a launcher.

If you want the launcher, I recommend going directly to the XDA forum thread and reading it from start to finish. That should give you an idea about whether or not you really want to fiddle with installing that launcher.

OK, thanks. Can I upgrade to 4.4 now or do I have towait a few months until Samsung decides? If I can, what do I have to do, please?

OK, got it. I supposed the released Nexus 5 build could be used for my unlocked S4 with a no restrictions carrier.

The two devices use different hardware, so there could be a lot of issues between them. Your best bet is to wait until the S4 Google Edition gets the 4.4 update very soon and a developer ports it to your phone.

I had missed that point. I know a bit about computers (not phones), so they also have different hardware and need different device drivers, but we can't get them because Google is the great master holding them, and we can only get them like gifts or alms. Well, I am new here and learning, and you have been very helpful, thank you. Will wait patiently.

It's actually not Google that's holding onto them, it's the hardware manufacturers themselves. Google releases all the ones for the Nexus devices, but other manufacturer's like Samsung and HTC tend not to. Luckily the GS4 Google Edition is almost identical to all S4s except the I9500, so porting it is a lot easier because you can just re-use the baked in drivers to that rom.

"It's all clear now", like in a song on JC Superstar. Many thanks again for the clear explanations. Learning... sorry.
