Root 4ext recovery corrupted

desire 96

Newbie
Hi everyone
I have a HTC desire that recently I found it was more lag
Especially I was playing game
So I decide to re install the rom
I have format my sd card and partition
After that I partition my sd card again
5 minutes later my recovery shows an error
It says it have reinstall to prevent damage
So how can I reinstall the recovery.
Moreover my phone was using runnymede 6.0.4.3
That is discontinued for HTC desire
Thanks a lot if can help me.

Hi desire96, and welcome to AF :)

I'm not sure why you reformatted/repartitioned your card, but as long as you didn't use Minitool to do it let's not worry about that now.
If, as the thread title says, you are using 4Ext I guess you are S-Off. In this case you can just install using the 4Ext Recovery Updater or 4Ext Recovery Control app. If you can't boot into android then you can download an img from the 4Ext thread at XDA (there should be a link in the guide to rooting with Revolutionary here) and fastboot flash that.

As for the ROM, if you still have the zip you can just reinstall it. Many people use old ROMs. I can't advise on alternatives though as I don't know or use Sense ROMs.

thanks for your reply and can you send me that link and I still not so understand water is 4ext image and what is flash boot

Read this guide then download 4ext recovery updater from the link in the guide & install it on your phone. Remember to allow unknown sources under settings>applications. Then follow the instructions in the guide to reinstall 4ext or the latest version.

If you already have 4ext recovery updater in your app drawer you can just use that to update 4ext. I recommend you read the guide anyway.

hi.
mine 4ext recovery was corrupted so when I installed zip from sd card the process was abortedso what can I do to get back to runnymede.by the way I can’t boot to android.

Sorry, didn't post links as am using TapaTalk. The info you need is in this guide: http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=4638612. Point 2 of the guide includes downloading the img, point 6 IIRC how to fastboot flash it (there's a link early in the guide to setting up fastboot - tells you to follow another guide to do it).

As long as you can boot the phone into fastboot mode you can do this (boot while pressing the back key).

I wonder how you got the recovery corrupted - never heard of that? Changes to rom or sd should not affect that (could mess up your ext4 partition, but can't see how it would affect 4Ext recovery).

How did you install 4Ext recovery originally? Was it the app?

The recovery image is the actual recovery you install on the phone. It's in a disk image format, so you simply flash the phone with it.

Fastboot is both a mode of the bootloader and a program on a computer. You install fastboot on your computer, connect the phone to it via usb (with phone in fastboot mode) then use the fastboot program on the computer to flash the image to the phone.

first of all I thanks to your reply .
you ask about how I get the 4ext recovery corrupted is because when I wipe my sd card then I put the sd card to the pc without waiting the copy of runnymede zip to the stop I straight away copy another runnymede zip into the sd card. in this while the copy process seems lag so after I put back the sd card inside to the desire it shows the recovery corrupted.

after all can you help me how to do And tell me what is the first step needed to do now.
Or post all the steps on the next reply....

Can I just check we aren't confusing terms here?

Ext4 is a storage format, quite likely the format of your second partition.
4Ext is a custom recovery program.

The only connection between the two is that the names are similar.
Now what you describe should not corrupt either, but it's easier to imagine it corrupting the partition than the recovery. That's why I'd like to just explicitly check, to make sure I don't set you off doing unnecessary stuff because of a confusion of names.

If it really is the recovery then post #6 has the pointers to how to do this. Can't post much more atm as am at work.

hi hadron...
can i use back th official htc desire rom....
is that possible for me?
if can, can you give me some idea or steps to do?????/
hope you will help me......
thx a lot.

If you want the stock ROM (unrooted) and recovery you can flash an RUU. If you can tell us what network your phone was brought from or whether it was unbranded we can find a suitable one.

An RUU will wipe the phone, unroot it and remove your custom recovery. If you are S-Off you will still be afterwards unless you take further steps first.

If you want a stock ROM but still rooted look at the "list of ROMs" link in the Desire All Things Root Guide sticky post in this forum - there is a section there for rooted stock ROMs, which you install like any other.

If it's actually your recovery which is a problem and you are S-Off we can fix that if you want. The hboot screen (boot while pressing the volume down key) will tell you whether you are S-On or S-Off.
