Root 4G fix yet?

busted bones

Android Enthusiast
I know if I unlock and root I will lose 4G and that there were some developers working on fixing that. Last I read someone claimed they were close but not completely there yet. Has there been any word on if they've gotten it yet or are close? I work and live in a 4G area and would hate to lose it.

You will not loose 4G if you root, only if you unlock. As far as progress, there hasn't really been any lately. You have to keep in mind that there are but a handful of devs even working on the Photon. Team Moto Tegra is handling the CM9 stuff, cybik has CM7, there are a couple folks working on blur based ROM's, halfevildruid has GSM unlock and I have webtop. Except for some floaters that pretty much covers everybody. Toss in that many of us are working on multiple platforms and well, you get the idea.

I know what you mean and that right now is the deal breaker for me. Have any of the WiMax phones been unlocked with custom kernels and kept 4G? If I remember correctly, the OG EVO lost 4G as well.

As far as keeping 4G and still have a noticeable improvement in performance. Your best bet will be my Live ROM Conversion. It strips out blur/bloat and on the Photon has custom notification toggles and additional performance tweaks.
