4G LTE Plans for MetroPCS

I recently upgraded to the LG Esteem from an Optimus M. That means I had the 50 dollars smartphone plan for that which included everything unlimited and other additional features in my plan. With the new LG Esteem I activated today, I stayed in the same 50 dollars plan but in the 4G service. I don't really understand this plan, especially the 1GB multimedia data. What does it mean by multimedia data? Probably streaming apps like Pandora, video or radio stations. I called MetroPcs costumer service and they say YouTube is unlimited under my plan, and one MetroPCS main store it counts against the 1 GB data. What exactly counts on this capped 1gb data?

Another thing is there an effective way to track my data usage?

Thank you in advance and sorry if this is repost, I'm new here by the way.

After your 1gb of data you will be capped until your next billing cycle, you might as well go with the $60 plan much better and unlimited everything, and if you have another line on the same account than your bill would be $55 instead of $60.

From what I understand MetroPCS did away with the Unlimited Youtube because so many people complained that it it was against the Net Neutrality Laws... and I believe it was mostly people who aren't MetroPCS customers that bitched the loudest.

Streaming data includes things like Youtube, Pandora, Slacker and other streaming sites. Things that don't count against the data are Email, Web browsing and Android Market.

If you want to track your usage I suggest an app called My Data Manager Free by Mobidia Technology, available for free in the Market. I breaks data usage up between WiFi and Mobile (1x/3G/4G) but also by app, so you can keep track of your data usage as a whole and by apps like Youtube or Pandora to figure out exactly where your data is going. It also has a nice widget, that allows you to enter what your data limit is, in your case 1GB, the the widget shows you the amount of data uses, number of days left in your billing cycle and percentage used of your limit.

If I get the unlimited plan will I still need the Data Manager? From what I heard, even with the unlimited plan, there's a possibility that you can still go over in data usage. Which will be the hidden fees/fine print that Metro doesn't tell you about directly.

If you have the Unlimited plan, the only reason you'd need a data manager/meter would be for your own curiosity. I haven't heard of anyone going over a data limit with an unlimited plan. I have heard of people getting shut off for doing things like tethering, which is against the MetroPCS Terms of Service. No matter how sneaky you think you are, they know when another device is using their network.

Yeah, unlimited is unlimited -- for your phone, not for devices connected to your phone (without paying the upcoming tethering plan fee). But I've not heard of anyone with an unlimited plan being cut off for using too much data on their phone.

I have heard sporadic reports of people moving from one state to another and then using "too much" free roaming data. They still wanted to be Metro customers but were not living in home coverage area any more -- and using the roaming network exclusively (which costs Metro money). Metro cut them off, said they were violating terms, blah, blah, blah. Again, a few reports of that, not a lot.

-What about Facebook, Google Plus and uploading pics/videos. Do they count against your data limit?

-This My Data Manager application is it secured? Does it hog battery?

-Does MetroPcs offer an alternative tool to track your data usage like online, a calling number, checking at the stores, etc???

I'm confused with the YouTube thing, phone customer service told me I had unlimited YouTube but at the main store they said it's not in my current plan.

Thanks for response.

The most accurate way to track your data with metro is to create an online account on the metropcs website. Under the phone number for your phone you will see a data tracker which tells you how much you have used and how much you have left.

I updated to the unlimited plan yesterday since i wanted Rhapsody for the gym so the tracker is no longer there since is is not needed with the unlimited plan.

this method will be a much more accurate way to keep track of your data.

Where in your account appears your data usage. I had already created an account on the metropcs website

There is no such thing as Online Data Usage tracker in your account. I checked already. :( Any better way to track it?

Then you arnt looking in the right location.

Arrow is pointing to location where the data bar is. It only shows up if you have the $50 plan. i have upgraded to the $60 plan so it is no longer there.

Right now Metro has not introduced their tethering plan. When they do, they plan to start cracking down on "unauthorized" tethering and canceling accounts. They might make an example out of you. :p

There are no Net Neutrality laws.

True, I should have said proposed net neutrality laws. But, a lot of "consumer advocacy" groups treat them as laws and stepped in to stop it, even though they aren't customers and will never be effected by Metro's plans or policies. I contacted several of the groups who took on Metro over the unlimited YouTube and the tiered data plans, and got very little response. Basically they spin it to seem like they fight this kind of thing for us... lol

I asked them how they would feel if there actions wound up costing customers an extra $10 a month to get unlimited YouTube, and explained that the reason Metro was adding it to all LTE plans wasn't for YouTubes sake, but that a survey of Metro customers showed that a majority of their customers used YouTube over any other streaming service and they didn't want to take away that capability. I never got a response.
