Help 4G not used if WiFi enabled but no connection

Hi all,

I just got a Motorola Atrix and I love it so far! :p

However, there is a problem I am having. I have the phone connected to my home wireless network via WiFi at all times. However, when my phone is too far away from the router, the signal is so bad that I don't get any internet (yes, this router is no good).

The problem is that my internet stops working completely on the Atrix in this situation! The only way for me to get internet is to disable WiFi so that the Atrix will use the 4G network, which is really inconvenient.
Is there any way I can set it up so that if the WiFi is giving no internet, that the Atrix will automatically switch to 4G?

Thank you in advance!

The only "FIX" for this is replace the wireless router with one that works better, or turn off WiFi when out of good coverage range.

This is not just an Atrix issue, I had this on my Blackberry 8320/9000/9700 phones as well.
As long as it's getting SOME kind of signal from the WiFi, the phone is going to try to route data that way. The Phone companies (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon...) have specified that this be the behavior to limit data on their networks.

The problem here is that you phone is still getting the WiFi signal, but it's out of performance range on the Router. So, it's still connected, but not getting data through the router.

You can try different Channels in the Wireless Router and see if one of the other channels (under wireless settings in the router) has stronger signal than the one you are using.

However, I have a feeling you are just going to have to either break down and get a better router, or keep remembering to turn the WiFi off in certain places in your home.

Thanks for the response.

Hmm... that is kind of troublesome. Well, we had another *defective* router (with better signal) sitting around, so I'll try to get that working.

Thanks again!
