4G to 3G?

So, just got a Galaxy Note to replace my old BBY. Really liking this phone, but...at home, I can't get a signal. My BBY worked here just fine...my wife's iPhone works here just fine. I assume it's because my new Galaxy is a 4G device, while my BBY and the iPhone are 3G. Is there that much difference in signal strength?

Interestingly, the Samsung picked up a text sent from my wife's iPhone, no problems at all...but my Samsung won't send a text at all...the little circular icon just keeps spinning and spinning (for about 20 minutes before I cancelled the text). Calls won't go in or out...I get a message that the network is not available.

Anyway, just wondering if there's any way to switch my 4G Note to use the 3G network...I don't really want to dump the phone and get something else, but I'll have to if I can't fix this issue.

BTW, according to Telus' coverage map, I'm covered, but right at the edge of the coverage area. But, same is shown for 3G, so I didn't think there'd be an issue.

Thanks for any info!
