4GLTE and bars lit in blue vs white?

why do the 4GLTE and bar indicators at the top of my phone light up in blue sometimes, while other times they are white?

is there some significance to the color change?

thanks.

Everything I've read says that the white bars indicate the signal is available, but you are not connected. blue means you are connected. Someone will certainly correct me if that's wrong. :)

If they are blue you are connected to Google, white is just Verizon. As long as there is a 4g Lte or 3g symbol then there is a data connection

My Background Data has been off, and the signal bars were white. I just turned Background Data on, and now they are blue. Turned off again and bars are white again.

As carracerz14 stated, connected to google=blue, verizon only=white

I feel dumb for asking this, but I will anyway. :)

What is it that we connect "to" Google for? Doesn't Verizon provide our data access?
