Help 4K Video Orientation Issue (Samsung Note 4)

As best as I can determine, and after forum discussions with video producing experts online, if you take 4K videos (or maybe any resolution) with the screen rotate function "on" you can end up with clips that are SIDEWAYS and cannot be fixed. The meta data will show "9:16" instead of the normal "16:9" even though the user is seeing the view screen horizontal during shooting. Some video players will correct for this and rotate the video clip correctly during playback, but others, including Cyberlink PowerDirector 13 producer will not. This causes you to end up with a wonderful 4K movie to show friends, with some clips turned sideways! Can this be fixed, and or at least verified that the auto-rotate feature is the culprit? Example: I'm taking vacation videos in 16:9 aspect ratio, one after another. Having recently used the screen rotate feature, I forgot and left it on. I turn to talk to someone and incidentally lower my phone camera; in doing so, the phone is turned vertical for a second. Then, I quickly go back to capturing video action. In that moment, something causes the new clip to be taken in !! 9:16 aspect ratio but it's SIDEWAYS. Cannot be rotated. So happens, this clip is the best one of the vacation and I seem to be stuck with it if I want to make a consolidated movie of the vacation.
Any insight would be helpful, as my Note 4 is turning out to be the best camera I've ever used for vacation video. Without carrying other expensive and heavy 4K cameras.
Thanks.

You might try VLC player. I'm not sure it can rotate 4K, but worth a try. Of course you'll have to edit this on your PC/Mac. Here's the tutorial link I used when I had to deal with some rotated vids myself.

good luck!

VLC Player is one of the players that does play the clips without any issue. I checked the tools menu and found that VLC also seems to show that the metadata within the clip is correct, so I do not know why PowerDirector 13, Windows Media Player, etc., are misreading the attributes. '

Thanks for the information. I think I will do some experiments with the Note 4 taking 4K video with the screen rotate function off and see if I can recreate the issue. If not, at least I won't have to worry about this in the future, but newcomers will have to search out the solution unless it's published.
