5.0 Lollipop thoughts.

just to update my experience in case someone reads earlier in the thread me blasting 5.0...

i did a factory reset after flashing, and all my ailments have been fixed. everything is running smoothly on my n7 2012, and i couldn't be happier with the performance.

Great to hear Lollipop is running good now :)

Hope that's not a common issue.
 
Bugs and poor performance have been reported, but generally among people who didn't wipe the device prior to flashing. With major update like this one, it's best to start fresh. I did a factory reset in the OS, then a wipe that happened as a result of unlocking my bootloader, and then I ran the flash-all script without removing the -w.

But I also wanted to test Lollipop's new backup & restore features.
 
Smart lock is amazing. It's doing a pretty damn good job of recognizing my ugly face. And now I find myself wanting to buy more bluetooth devices. So far I only have my car for that.
 
I've noticed that Smart Lock seems to get a bit screwy when there are multiple trusted BT devices - for instance, the head unit in my car as well as the Pebble on my wrist. When I disconnect from my car I get prompted for the PIN even though the phone remains connected to my watch.

The Tasker profile I created a while back handled this hand-off much better. Still, I'm pleased that it can now be done at the OS level without requiring additional apps. Hopefully it will get hammered out with an update before long.
 
I haven't seen much documentation yet on the "Trusted Agents" bit of the revamped security options, but it sounds (to me) like it might pave the way for other apps to expand the Smart Lock functionality. So, in theory, an application like Secure Settings would be able to plug in as a Trusted Agent to provide system-level integration for Tasker to control this fancy new stuff.

Maybe. Completely uneducated guess, but that would be cool as crap.

I've forgotten how I did it now, but even on 4.x android you could have tasker enable/disable security when certain conditions (like connecting to your home wifi) were met. I imagine it required root though, so a baked in solution would be nice in the future.
 
^ That was using the "Device Administrators" option (also under Security). Apps like Secure Settings were able to plug in there to manage some security-related stuff (lock/unlock, etc) without needing root. I'm hoping that Trusted Agents will be like an enhanced version of that. :thumbup:

Just guessing, though - still can't find any documentation for that feature.

Oh wow. Was it really advised to do a reset prior to update?
if I do a reset after the 5.0 update, will it (Nexus4) reload with 5.0 or the original 4.4.2?
 
Updated my Shield Tablet earlier today and to be honest I don't really like the update, performance is fine but visually it's not that great.

Hopefully battery improvements will be worth the loss of xposed framework.

So much hype and again mostly disappointing, how users manage without the full screen mode I don't know.

For those still on kitkat, your not missing much.

A reset is always unofficially recommended for major version updates. It's a somewhat-easy way to avoid a lot of potential issues.

A factory reset after installing 5.0 will revert to a clean install of 5.0. :thumbup:
 
So far (2days having updated to 5.0) my main irk is in regards to the lock-screen requiring to swipe up to before entering the passcode (if passcode is required)

I know the reason I need to swipe up is because the notifications now reside on the lock-screen. However, I must say that I rather preferred the previous method of getting the icon in the notification bar, and then having to swipe down (even on lock-screen) to see the notification summary.

The extra step of swiping up to enter the passcode just seems unnecessary (IMO). So this is my irk - unless someone knows how to switch this behavior :D, and disabling passcode is a no-can-do for me :p
 
I love having the notifications on the lock screen, and I don't mind swiping up.

I have Smart Lock enabled, so most of the time it sees my face. Then I just have to swipe up and I'm in, which saves hassle. Waiting for the new Play Services update to enable trusted location.

You could always try Widgetlocker(keep in mind, it's horribly outdated. The developer has abandoned it).
 
Is there a way to customize the lock screen. I hate the carrier name tmobile on the upper left corner of my luck screen. Do they think I'm going to forget who my carrier is? Would like more useful info in that valuable real Estate like battery life.

Not on the stock lockscreen. You'd have to use a third-party lockscreen replacement, but I'm not sure which (if any) work on Lollipop right now. I'm sure that will come though!
 
Yeah, I dislike seeing the carrier network listed up there like I"m on a damn iPhone.

But it's pretty immaterial. Overall the lock screen is one of the greatest improvements of Lollipop. Especially the new Smart Lock. I finally got the new GPS update and added my home and office to my trusted places.
 
I'll try to get a proper post up about it later, but while the board was down last night I decided to try out the improved device encryption option on my Nexus 4 - and it really is improved. Smart Lock makes using an encrypted device not at all inconvenient. And I haven't found it to be as much of a performance hit in real-world usage as some of the benchmarks and blogs would have you believe.

Anybody used the "Tap and Go" yet? interested in how much of the "settings and data" it will transfer from existing apps. I have touchdown, nova launcher that can export settings. But many others don't have that option. Also, what about the WIFI access points and passwords transfer, that has been hit/miss in the past. Shame I can't root my droid turbo and use titanium to restore all on 4.4.4. Till 5 is released for the droid turbo, turbo sits not activated waiting for 5. :( My old rooted Galaxy S3 working fine..
