64gb micro SD cards

Hi there,

New to the forum as I would like somebody to give me a clue regarding my phone and it's extended storage capacity.

I have an HTC Velocity 4G and purchased a 64gb micro SD card as I wanted to have an increased capacity so I can have more music. Previously had a 32gb card which was great, but not enough for the amount of music I have and with a fairly long commute to work in the mornings I love to put the ear phones in and read a book while on the go.

I tried everything; I formatted the micro SD card while it was in the phone and copied files across overnight from my Windows explorer, as well as selecting and copying/pasting songs from itunes. I had over 15000 mp3s on the card and decided to give it a go. The card seems to have wiped itself clean of all music save for 313 files. I have emailed the ebay seller I purchased it off and gave them a serve as I'm pretty pissed off as they advertised it was compatible with all Android phones.

End rant. A little help? Is my phone just not capable of dealing with that much memory or is it something to do with my OS?

Doing a quick search, your phone is listed as only supporting up to a 32g SD card. There are phones that will handle more than they are rated for but this might well be your problem.
You might do some additional checking. I'd love to be wrong.

Thanks Olbriar. The funny thing was that even when I put it in the adaptor and tried to transfer files on my laptop it would still inexplicably "delete" files.

At the time I got the phone (May last year) did 64gb cards actually exist? Maybe it was expandable up to 32gb because that's as high as they could go... or is it the capabilities of the phone?
 
With the card in the adaptor, right-click on the removable drive in Explorer and select Properties. What capacity is displayed? For a FAT32 formatted 64GB card it should be approx 59GB iirc.
 
I think you should be OK with a 64Gb card.

I bought a Sandisk for my HTC Desire S and formatted using the phone. Thereafter it was recognised both by the phone and by Windows if I attached the phone as USB disk drive. I then used SyncToy to sync all my tunes from the PC.

At the time it had Android 2.3(I think) then I updated to ICS and everything still seems to be working OK.

My point is that your phone should be able to support it if my older phone does but I guess it's no guarantee.
