7" Tablet That Will Charge From Any Old USB Source?

My 5" Note will.

The 7" Samsung Tablet I bought and immediately would not even charge from my vehicle's 12v outlet using a USB adapter rated at 3.1 amps. I smell something proprietary...

OK... I can see that the average PC's powered USB port might not be up to feeding the bigger battery.

But automotive 12v??

Seems like a confluence of engineering/design and marketing.

So, bottom line, is this issue common to all devices above a certain size? Or might part of it be Samsung playing games?

How about the Nexus 7?

The nexus 7 uses a proprietary charger as well. It requires 2a

At least I know the old one does. I surmise the new one does as well

My Bad. Looks like the subject has been thoroughly covered elsewhere and it might even be an Android kernel thing as per forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984838.

and not all usb cables are equal.. (even if the charger is rated, the cable itself may be the problem)
