Don't try this, that recovery is for the Xperia Z, not the Z1.

The simplest way to install a recovery is to root using this: Easy Root Tool for various Xperia devices - XDA Forum (although if you are rooted, you can obviously skip this step)

Once rooted, install NUTs dual recovery here: [DEVDB][TWRP][PhilZ Touch][CWM] XZDualRecovery 2.7.1XX RC - XDA Forum

You can then use his NDR Utils app here to boot in to recovery: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camber.ndrutils

How did you unlock the bootloader, via the official Sony Dev site or using Flashtool? (this: Flashtool | Xperia device flashing)

From the recovery link, head to NUTs download page here: -=- [NUT]'s XDA download page -=-

The file you want is this one: Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.7.154-BETA.installer.zip (23.99MB)

It's an exe/batch file ran from your PC which will install the recovery for you.

I would advise against using ROM Manager for anything tbh.

The 2nd "guide" you linked to is also full of nonsense, just ignore it.
