8gb SD card full

Hello and good morning,

First off I posted this in general as my question seems very generic, but I am using the Droid X2... :(

Anyways, I am running Cm7 and my SD card is just about full. I have a complete system image backup using bootstrapper or clockworkmod (I believe it's bootstrapper).

My question is, can I delete everything off my SD card (aside from the clockworkmod folder) and then restore my backup to create nothing, but an empty SD card? I have apps store on my card, but I just don't want to jump into anything I'm not to familiar with. If I were to delete ALL data on my SD card, aside from the things I'd like to keep which are just pictures and small files, will that cause any harm?

In my mind, deleting all content on my SD card and then restoring the image should set my phone back to normal, but giving me a full 7+gb.

If this needs to be moved, that's alright, just let me know where :p

-Thank You
Drew

Before you do anything, plug your phone into your computer and make a backup of everything on the card. That way if you screw something up or delete the wrong thing you can get it back. I believe there is an option to wipe SD from recovery, that should empty everything for you. But again, back up everything to your computer first so that you don't lose your recovery image.

Greetings dbx64,

It seems to me that you are over thinking this matter.

I don't know why you want to restore a backup just to empty out your SD card. This will do nothing about the files stored on your SD card. It will only return your phone to the condition it was in when you made the backup.

1. Try just try uninstalling apps that you don't need.

2. Delete files off your SD card that you no longer want.

A full factory reset will return your phone to its original state, without any user installed apps.

If this doesn't get you enough room, how about just getting a bigger SD card. A 16 gig can be had for probably under $20. You can copy all the files from the 8 to the 16 and go about your business.

I agree with what greg says about backing up your card.
Hope this helps

If I'm understanding your question correctly that you want to clear everything off your SD card accept the backups. Then the easiest way to do this would be on the computer. Use the data cord for your phone and hook up to the computer. Open up your SD card storage and you will see all the files on your SD card. As others have said, make a backup of your entire SD card. You can create a folder on your desktop and label it , Phone SD card backup. Highlight all folders/contents on the on the SD card and just drag and drop it into the backup folder you created. Go back to the SD card and select the folders you don't want and press "delete". Real easy.

just to add a little to that. make sure when you put anything back on the card that the folder is the same name as it was before or it may not be found by any corresponding app, the phone, or even by you later on.
