Ka-Chunk while a song was playing.

Haha.

I remember our neighbour had the soundtrack album of Paint Your Wagon on 8-track, and the thing going "I was born..CLUNK!..under a wandering star.". Yeh, it wasn't too good. I think on albums the song playlists had to be rearranged, and songs edited, in order to fit within the limitations of the tape loop changeovers.

LOVE it! i had no idea that specific release was on 8 track. Wow talk about a testimony in time! Was Tandy and Radio Shack the same? When I was old enough to shop and buy my own electronics etc. Circuit City was the new kid on the block but i remember going to Radio Shack to buy cassettes in the malls!

Yeh, they're one and the same. It was Tandy in the UK, because apparently another electronics retailer was already called Radio Shack here. They pulled out of the UK in late 90s. Thriller probably was one of the last released in that format in 1982.

Dunno what sort of mess they made of Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd on 8-track, with re-arranging, cutting and splitting tracks to fit on the thing.

The named Radio Shack finally closed or bankrupted here in U.S. just less than 5 yrs ago. i can't recall if a few stores remained open or all shut down. Its like a landmark gone forever. Ah i didn't know 8 track would cut songs to make an original album fit the format. that had to be a rip off. Was the price about the same as a vinyl release ?

I remember them being similar in price but far handier than a record player in the old plymouth.
I installed a player in my first auto in 1968. As poor of quality that it was, it was the leading edge of the time. I even invested in a 8 track recorder to make my own tapes. I still have it in the shed though I haven't used it lately. :)
