9 Innings: Pro Baseball 2011 - A Warning

I haven't seen a thread for this game yet, so I figured I'd start one. 9 Innings is a "freemium" baseball game by developer Com2US. I've been playing it for a few days now and I like the game. I wanted to love it I've come across some serious technical issues that diminish the overall experience.

Since 9 Innings is a free game, it is ad-supported. The ads are kinda obnoxious, but they don't cause any noticeable performance issues. Unlike other ad-supported games, you cannot disable the ads by putting your phone into Airplane Mode. The game provides an option to disable the ads with a $7.99 in-app purchase. Whatever you do please do not spend any money to disable the ads because as soon as you reopen the app, the ads reappear!

So, I spent $7.99 to remove the ads, only to have them reappear as soon as I reopened the app. I've requested a refund but (predictably) I haven't heard from Com2US. I do not expect to get a refund. I just want to warn you all not to spend your money to disable the ads since the effect is only temporary. I don't want to say Com2US is scamming folks. It may just be a technical issue, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

You've been warned. Enjoy the game for what it is but save your money.

I see you have an Evo, are you rooted by any chance? If you are, you can install ROMs that come with ad-blocking or you can try the adblock app I think it is called. I am running Liberty v1.5 on my Droid X and I never see ads in any game, including this one or even Angry Birds. Not sure if that is an option for you but I figured I would ask.

Thanks for the tip Varking! Not rooted yet, but I probably will shortly (just waiting to see what HTC's official Gingerbread update is gonna look like). I'll keep that solution in mind going forward.

The messed up thing is that I actually like 9 Innings and I still have it installed. It's quite good, ads and all. I'd still recommend the game to anyone. Just don't spend any money on it until Google/Com2US work out the kinks...
