Root 900mhz Roms leave Admire Stuck at Boot Screen

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious but I've tried flashing 3 different 900mhz ROMs to my admire and the phone will just sit at the boot screen for 20+ minutes after each flash. Here are the steps I took:

1. Flashed 2.3.6 using the official Samsung updater from: Support - More Cell Phone Providers SCH-R720 | Samsung Cell Phones

2. Installed CWM using Odin following the instructions at:
http://androidforums.com/admire-all...-recovery-not-compatible-rom-manager-yet.html

3. Booted to CWM and cleared data, cache and dalvik cache and installed the .zip for CM7.2 from http://androidforums.com/admire-all...equisite0-beta-cwm-cache-issue-addressed.html

4. Upon rebooting the "A N D R O I D" splash screen showed up and then nothing happened for 20+ minutes.

5. I reflashed the official 2.3.6 image and the phone booted fine to the stock rom. I repeated steps 2-3 for the Stock++ rom (http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/654444-new-stock-2-3-6-rom-updated-12-6-2012-a.html) and also the Monster 5.3 full build (http://androidforums.com/admire-all...nes-dont-take-oc-kernel-well.html#post4433299). For both of these roms the phone just sits at the SCH-R720 splash screen for 20+ minutes.

Any thoughts/assistance is greatly appreciated. I saw this post but wasn't sure if it is outdated or not: http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/592898-help-bricked-admire.html#post4751435

The problem is simple. You're trying to flash oc roms with cwm 5.0.2.7. You have to flash cwm 5.0.2.8 because .2.7 is only for stock roms and .2.8 is for oc roms.

thanks for the quick replies. would CM72RC1-Beta1-KernelCWM-requisite0.zip linked in http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/592898-help-bricked-admire.html#post4751435 be the best way to flash 5.0.2.8?

I flashed this file and then installed CM7.2-RC2-2012-08-11-requisite0-BETA and encountered a different issue - the boot screen sits there for 5 minutes and then the screen goes black with the hard keys lighting up. I saw mention of this in a few other threads so I will pursue this matter in those threads. Thanks again for the help, sorry if this was an obvious question.

Yeah that's the only way to flash 5.0.2.8 and make sure you're also formatting /system or you will run into problems.

Thanks very much to all for the information. Following your instructions I used the following process and got Stock++ to install and boot. I also tried flashing CM7.2-RC2-2012-08-11-requisite0-BETA later and it booted fine. Here it is if it's useful to anyone else.

1. From stock I installed clockworkmod recovery using these instructions http://androidforums.com/admire-all...-recovery-not-compatible-rom-manager-yet.html

2. I booted to CMR (hold down volume down, back button while powering on the phone)

3. Wiped the data, wiped the cache, wiped the dalvik cache (under advanced), formatted /system (under mounts and storage).

4. Installed the relevant .zip file and then rebooted.
